Job Description - Carbon Accountant

Does AAB sound like a good fit for you? We currently have an opening for a Carbon Accountant to join our ESG Services team.

THE ROLE

Carbon Accountant - UK & Ireland, office based / hybrid

Purpose of the role/key responsibilities:

Carbon footprint calculation
Gather, validate, and analyse data related to clients' scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions across various industries and sectors
Conduct detailed Life Cycle Assessments
Ensure data reporting and collection methodology aligns with best practice in carbon accounting and GHG protocols.
Emissions reduction plans
Support clients to develop tailored and detailed carbon emission reduction plans/net zero strategies with interim targets to improve sustainability performance, including justifications for preferred actions. Project management
Ensure on-time project delivery o Oversee the preparation of client proposal inputs, presentation material, client reports and technical summaries
Client engagement
Collaborate closely with clients to understand their unique business operations and identify emission sources
Identify and communicate carbon and energy related risks and opportunities within our clients' sectors
Maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
Regulatory compliance
Monitor evolving regulations, industry standards, and trends related to carbon accounting and emissions reporting, ensuring our clients' adherence to their regulatory compliance requirements
Other ESG and sustainability responsibilities
Whilst the focus of this role is carbon accounting, other services delivered by the team include materiality assessment, strategy and reporting. Experience in these areas is not expected, but will be of interest.

Experience and skill set required for the role:
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Environmental Science, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CFA, CDP) will be a plus.
Demonstrated experience in carbon accounting and greenhouse gas emissions calculation, including use of digital carbon accounting tools or software
Detailed knowledge of reporting regulations, standards, guidance, and frameworks, including but not limited to CSRD, ISSB, TCFD, SECR, GRI, SBTi, CDP and TNFD
Ability to discern key inputs and retain and use data that drives decisions in a highly ambiguous environment
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets, including conversions and calculations, and draw actionable insights.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to a range of audiences effectively, including the C-Suite level
Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering high-quality results within tight deadlines.
Passion for environmental sustainability and a commitment to driving positive change through responsible business practices.
Solutions mindset and interconnected outlook, with a highly collaborative working style and pro-active approach.
Detailed understanding of double materiality
The ability to clearly articulate the commercial benefits of robust net-zero and sustainability strategies
