An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Child Care Paralegal to join a well-established and supportive legal team specialising in Care and Family Law. This role is ideal for someone with previous legal administrative or paralegal experience, who is passionate about client care and committed to supporting vulnerable individuals and families through complex legal processes. This position plays a vital part in the efficient delivery of legal services and will involve a blend of client-facing work, legal administrative tasks, and case management. You will be supported by experienced fee earners and offered guidance as you develop your skills in a specialist legal environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as a key contact point for Care clients, particularly during new case allocations and when the team is in court.
Manage incoming calls and in-person enquiries at the office.
Oversee team diary management and arrange client appointments.
Support the team with client communication, instructions, and follow-up tasks.
Attend and support client meetings under Legal Help arrangements (with supervision).
Provide general administrative support to the team.
Handle full case file setup, including conflict checks, liaising with counsel and experts, and obtaining cost estimates.
Assist with disbursement management: claiming, processing, and requisitioning payments.
Prepare and serve C2 court applications and manage court fee payments.
Coordinate and manage DNA and drug/alcohol testing arrangements.
Support trial preparation and assist in bundle collation.
Close and archive case files upon completion.
Serve as the administrator for the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) online service; manage all local authority and fee earner queries.
Draft LAA applications, scope and limit extensions, prior authorities, and billing documents for fee earner review.
Draft letters, file notes, telephone notes, court documents, and other correspondence.
Attend client meetings and court hearings with fee earners and take detailed notes.
Perform other ad hoc office and legal support duties as required.
Ideal Candidate Profile: Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional and polite telephone manner.
Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
Organised and able to manage time and tasks efficiently.
Confident typing and drafting skills with strong literacy.
Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Knowledge & Experience:
Working knowledge of standard office equipment and legal administration processes.
Previous experience in a legal office environment, ideally in a Family or Care team.
Familiarity with legal research and managing a varied workload.
Experience using case management systems is advantageous.
Prior use of the Legal Aid Agency portal (CCMS) is highly desirable.
A genuine interest in Care and Family Law and a commitment to exceptional client care.
