Team: Public Protection – Environmental Health – Pollution Team  


Job Family: Directing - CBG9-12
Salary: £34,811 - £50,436 per annum pro rata


Hours: 22 hours a week


Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.


Contract type: Hybrid - Permanent

About the role:  


 


We are seeking a self-motivated, organised and enthusiastic professional to join our team as a Public Protection Practitioner. In this role, you will be responsible for providing consultee comments on planning applications for the pollution team you will also be the lead officer when dealing with all matters related to contaminated land. Among your varied duties, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the Council’s Contaminated Land Strategy and providing specialist advice to support the Local Planning Authority. You will also comment on planning applications from a pollution perspective and strong knowledge of key areas, Air Quality, Environmental Noise and Contaminated Land are necessary.


The role requires excellent communication skills, a flexible approach to work, and a solution focused outlook.


 


Applications are invited from candidates with a relevant scientific degree, ideally with a proven track record of working in the field of contaminated land and planning consultations. The role is flexible in terms of working days and the candidate will be working from home.


 


Main Duties & Responsibilities – the post holder will be required to: - 


 



  • Provide consultee comments on planning applications for the pollution department covering Noise, Light, Air quality, Contaminated land

  • Respond to contaminated land enquiries

  • Ensure the council statutory duties under contaminated land are fulfilled


 


 


Required Qualifications and Experience:


 



  • Degree or equivalent qualification in environmental health, environmental science, or a related discipline (desirable).

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in regulatory compliance, or a similar role (Essential).

  • Thorough knowledge of environmental protection legislation and regulations (desirable).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with a range of stakeholders (essential).

  • Strong analytical and report writing abilities (essential).

  • Proficient in the use of IT systems (essential).

  • GCSE or equivalent Maths and English (Grade A* - C or 4 - 9) (essential).

  • 2 A-Levels or equivalent (essential).
