Caretaker | Modern & Supportive Academy | Barnet

CORE PURPOSE

We require a proactive, reliable Caretaker to manage the security, maintenance, and safety of our Barnet campus. Reporting to the Premises Manager, you will handle daily lockups, minor repairs, statutory compliance checks, and porterage, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for our school community.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS

• Site Security: Manage daily opening/closing, set alarms, conduct boundary patrols, and act as a primary keyholder for emergency call-outs.

• General Maintenance: Complete first-line repairs (basic plumbing, carpentry, painting) and report major faults.

• Compliance Checks: Perform routine safety testing, including weekly fire alarms, emergency lighting, and water hygiene logs.

• Porterage & Cleaning: Set up halls for exams, manage deliveries, and assist the cleaning team with spillages and keeping grounds tidy.

• Seasonal Care: Grit pathways and clear snow during winter to ensure safe site access.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

• Technical Skills: Practical handyperson experience (plumbing, carpentry, or decorating) and strong DIY capability.

• Compliance Knowledge: Basic understanding of health and safety standards (COSHH, manual handling, ladder safety).

• Reliable Ethos: A dependable, self-motivated worker with strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff and visitors.
