Caretaker | Thriving Primary School | Reading

A friendly and well-established primary school in Reading is looking to appoint a Caretaker to join the team from September 2026.

This is a full-time, long-term position for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-presented school environment. You'll become an important member of the school community, helping to ensure the site is ready for learning every day.

The Role

The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day upkeep of the school premises, ensuring the buildings and grounds remain safe, secure, and well maintained.

Responsibilities include:

• Opening and locking the school site

• Carrying out minor repairs and general maintenance

• Completing routine health and safety inspections

• Maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of the school grounds

• Setting up halls and classrooms for meetings and events

• Liaising with contractors and reporting maintenance issues

• Supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the school site

The Successful Candidate

The school is looking for a reliable and proactive individual with a practical approach to site maintenance.

Previous experience as a Caretaker, Site Assistant, Premises Assistant, Facilities Assistant, or Maintenance Operative is desirable. School experience is advantageous but not essential for candidates with relevant maintenance or facilities experience.

Salary & Benefits

• £29,000–£33,000 per annum (depending on experience)
