About Us:

We are a reputable staffing agency providing skilled catering staff to schools throughout the Peterborough area. We are currently seeking enthusiastic and reliable Catering Assistants to support school kitchens with meal preparation and service.

About the Role:
As a Catering Assistant, you will work under the direction of the chef to help prepare and serve meals to pupils and staff. You will play an important role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment during meal times.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with the preparation and serving of nutritious meals in line with school menus and dietary requirements.

Support the chef with basic food preparation tasks, including portioning and plating.

Serve meals efficiently and politely to pupils and staff.

Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen and dining areas.

Ensure compliance with food safety and health & safety procedures, including correct handling of allergens.

Help with washing up and cleaning kitchen equipment and surfaces.

Monitor stock levels and report to the chef or supervisor as needed.

Requirements:

Previous experience in catering or food service is essential.

Understanding or willingness to learn about food hygiene, allergy awareness, and safe food handling.

Ability to work well as part of a team and follow instructions.

Enhanced DBS check required – or willingness to apply (we can assist with the application).

Own transport is essential, as locations may vary across Peterborough and surrounding areas.

Friendly, patient, and approachable manner, especially when working with children.

Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or willingness to obtain one).

Experience working in a school or similar environment.

Knowledge of special dietary needs and allergens.
