A quick look at the role

This position is a working chargehand role on the night shift, which would involve working in all aspects of the facility including mobile plants.

To efficiently and effectively oversee the operations of the night shift and to ensure health and safety and environmental compliance, whilst delivering and maintaining first class customer service against pre-defined business KPIs.

Your core responsibilities

• To efficiently and effectively oversee the operations of the night shift and to ensure health and safety and environmental compliance, whilst delivering and maintaining first class customer service against pre-defined business KPIs
• Provide clear direction to operatives, oversee performance, and support ongoing staff development through training, motivation, and effective supervision.
• Manage staffing levels, coordinate rotas and cover for holidays/overtime, and handle absence procedures such as return-to-work interviews.
• Ensure full adherence to Health & Safety protocols, conduct inductions and toolbox talks, and maintain compliance with site licence and environmental regulations.
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of mobile plant equipment, liaising with suppliers for servicing, parts, and breakdown management.
• Actively drive cost-saving initiatives, improve operational efficiency, and support budget targets through resource and performance management.
• Deliver timely communication on serious incidents and near misses, ensuring thorough reporting and learning from events.

Our essential requirements

• Mobile plant operator
• Proven experience in the waste management sector, including transfer station operations
• IOSH or equivalent H&S qualification (or willingness to work towards)
• COTC certification (Desirable)
