Job Description - Chartered Building Surveyor (Historic Buildings)
If you got into building surveying because you genuinely love buildings, this could be one of the most rewarding moves you make. A well-established consultancy with a strong TDD pipeline is looking for a Chartered Building Surveyor to join a small, experienced team surveying some of the most interesting properties in the country: 14th-century manor houses, historic hotel estates, care homes and high street portfolios.
You'll travel the length of the UK, see places most people never visit, meet new clients every week, and keep developing into an outstanding building surveyor.
This isn't a desk job. It's autonomous, home-based, and built around variety with an uncapped bonus scheme.
The Chartered Building Surveyor Role
The core of the role is TDD and acquisition surveys across commercial property, with a genuine mix of characterful historic buildings and standard stock. You'll also deliver project monitoring instructions on behalf of lenders and financial institutions, and carry out detailed condition and compliance surveys on care home portfolios. There's real breadth here.
You'll work closely with the director, who peer-reviews reports and gives constructive, actionable feedback. The consultancy has a strong long-term pipeline and a clear succession plan: the director is looking to bring someone through to a senior leadership position over the next few years.
Duties of the Chartered Building Surveyor to include:
Carrying out TDD surveys on historic hotels, listed buildings, care homes and commercial property Delivering project monitoring instructions for banks and lending institutions Undertaking acquisition and reinstatement surveys for institutional and private clients Producing detailed condition reports with a focus on building pathology and defect diagnosis Conducting statutory compliance assessments on care home portfolios Managing client relationships from instruction through to completion Using drone technology and specialist survey equipment on site Identifying cross-selling and business development opportunities The Person?
Someone with a genuine passion for buildings, the independence to manage a nationwide diary, and enough commercial instinct to spot opportunities.
The Chartered Building Surveyor will ideally have:
MRICS qualification Post-qualification experience in TDD or acquisition surveying Sound knowledge of building pathology, construction forms and defect analysis Experience of, or interest in, project monitoring for lenders Confidence working autonomously with significant UK-wide travel A proactive approach to client relationships and business growthIn Return…?
