Job Description - Chartered Planner

Planner / Senior Planner – Cheltenham or Bristol


Salary: Highly competitive, dependent on experience
Employment type: Permanent | Full -time | Hybrid working available


An excellent opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Planner or Senior Planner to join a leading multi -disciplinary consultancy with a growing planning division based across Cheltenham and Bristol. The team works on a wide range of exciting projects – from residential and mixed -use developments to strategic regeneration and infrastructure – helping to shape sustainable, high -quality places across the South West and beyond.

The Opportunity

You’ll be involved in a diverse portfolio of planning projects, providing expert advice, managing applications, and contributing to the continued growth of the planning team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and managing a variety of planning applications and appeals.

  • Undertaking planning appraisals and research for potential development opportunities.

  • Providing clear, commercially focused planning advice to clients.

  • Supporting senior colleagues on complex or large -scale schemes.

  • Liaising with local authorities, developers, and external consultants.

  • Keeping up to date with planning policy, legislation, and best practice.

About You

  • MRTPI qualified, or on track to achieve chartership within the next 12 months.

  • Experience in a Local Authority planning department (ideally within a London Borough or large urban authority) is desirable, with any private sector experience considered a strong advantage.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong understanding of planning policy, legislation, and the wider development process.

  • Organised, proactive, and confident working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
