Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Location: Gateshead (Hybrid/Remote options available)
Salary: Up to £100,000 base, plus team-building support

One of the UK’s leading online competition platforms. Their system goes far beyond standard e-commerce, managing complex game logic, live draws, ticket caps, automated scheduling, secure payments, loyalty systems, and more.

They’re now investing in a complete rebuild of our platform—designed to be more scalable, secure, and feature-rich. To lead this transformation, we’re hiring a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) who will take full ownership of their technical direction and platform delivery.

This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a high-growth digital business from the ground up. As CTO, you’ll define and execute the technical strategy, lead the architecture and development of our next-generation platform, and build a high-performing engineering team around you.

You’ll work closely with their leadership team to align technology with business goals, ensuring our platform is robust, scalable, and ready to support future growth. You’ll also take full ownership of technical hiring decisions and team structure.

Skills

• Proven experience in a senior technical leadership role (CTO, Head of Engineering, or similar).
• Demonstrated success in building and scaling engineering teams from scratch.
• Deep experience with PHP (Laravel preferred), MySQL, and modern front-end frameworks (Vue.js or React).
• Strong understanding of infrastructure (NGINX, Apache, AWS), background workers, cron jobs, and CI/CD.
• Experience with secure API integrations and payment gateways.
• Familiarity with tools like Cloudflare, Redis, Docker, and Klaviyo is a plus.
• Bonus: Experience in gaming, lottery, or competition platforms.

Salary for this role is up to £100K, depending on experience + benefits.
