About the role

Do you enjoy building positive relationships with children and young people? Would you like a varied role where your skills can make a difference across both childcare and support work?

Freedom Care Group is looking for caring, experienced and reliable workers to join our Childcare and Support departments. You could undertake nanny assignments, support children at events or in nursery settings, and provide mentoring, respite or community support for children and young people with additional needs.

Our approach is relationship-first and person-centred. We value patience, consistency and an understanding that behaviour is a form of communication.

Assignments will be matched to your experience, skills, agreed availability and completed training. Each will have clear information about the child or young person’s needs, responsibilities and support arrangements.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing safe, nurturing childcare, following children’s routines and agreed arrangements with parents or carers.

  • Planning enjoyable activities suited to each child’s age, interests and development.

  • Supporting meals, hygiene, homework and travel where required.

  • Providing clear feedback to parents or carers after childcare sessions.

  • Helping run event crèches, creating a fun and safe environment.

  • Supporting children and young people with additional needs, respecting their communication styles, choices and preferences.

  • Providing mentoring, respite and community activities that encourage confidence, independence and social opportunities.

  • Following individual support plans, risk assessments and agreed approaches to behaviour and emotional regulation.

  • Providing personal care or medication support only where included in the plan and after completing the required training and competency checks.

What we’re looking for

Essential requirements

  • At least three years’ paid experience caring for or supporting children or young people, with experience relevant to the age groups you will work with.

  • A relevant Level 3 qualification in childcare, children and young people’s workforce, health and social care, or a closely related field.

  • A caring, patient and reliable approach, with the ability to build consistent, professional relationships.

  • Safeguarding awareness, sound judgement and an understanding of professional boundaries.

  • The ability to follow care and support plans and maintain clear, accurate and timely records.

  • Good communication with parents, carers, colleagues and managers.

  • Willingness to complete induction, safeguarding, first aid and assignment-specific training, together with any required shadow shifts.

Desirable experience and skills

  • Experience across both childcare and children’s support work.

  • Experience supporting children with SEND, autism, ADHD or communication differences.

  • Knowledge of child development, the EYFS, PECS or Makaton.

  • Experience of mentoring, respite or community-based support.

  • A suitable first aid qualification.

  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Driving is required for assignments involving transport. Appropriate insurance and transport arrangements must be confirmed before undertaking this work.

Working with Freedom

You will work alongside our Childcare and Support teams, reporting to the relevant manager for each assignment. You will receive assignment information and preparation appropriate to the work you undertake.

Across every assignment, you will be expected to safeguard children and young people, maintain confidentiality, follow safe working practices and communicate promptly if needs or arrangements change.

Safeguarding

Freedom Care Group is committed to safeguarding children and young people. Appointment is subject to satisfactory safer recruitment checks, including appropriate references, an Enhanced DBS check and verification of qualifications and right to work.

How to apply

If you have the experience, qualifications and caring approach we’re looking for, we would love to hear from you.
