About the Role

Are you an experienced, resilient, and compassionate mentor, teacher, or youth worker looking to make a transformative impact on the lives of vulnerable young people?

We are seeking dedicated Children in Care Tutors and Behaviour Mentors across Derbyshire to support children in care and those navigating complex or challenging behaviours.

Drawing on robust de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed support, you will bridge the gap between exclusion and engagement—helping students build self-respect, trust, and a pathway toward positive educational outcomes.

Core Responsibilities & Duties

* Targeted Mentoring & Tutoring: Deliver engaging one-to-one or small group mentoring and academic sessions tailored to children in care and alternative provision students.

* Behavioural Support: Identify behavioural triggers, implement structured support plans, and establish fair yet firm boundaries that foster mutual respect.

* De-escalation & Safety: Apply advanced de-escalation and conflict-resolution techniques to maintain safe, constructive learning environments.

* Collaboration: Work closely with schools, local authorities, care teams, and parents to support long-term rehabilitation and personal growth.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

Essential Skills & Experience

* Proven background working with children in care or vulnerable young people in education, residential care, or support environments.

* Exceptional capability in crisis management, advanced de-escalation, and conflict resolution.

* A natural talent for establishing trust quickly and motivating hard-to-reach students.

Qualifications & Certifications

* Relevant training or qualifications in Mentoring, Youth Work, Counselling Skills, or Children's Mental Health (e.g., NVQ Level 5, NCFE/City & Guilds levels).

* Up-to-date Management of Violence & Aggression (MVA), NAPPI, or equivalent safeguarding/behavioural accreditations.

* A fully enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one) along with current safeguarding training.
