Childrens mental health support worker

Job Description - Childrens mental health support worker

Make a difference that matters. Help young people build brighter futures.

At 360 CAMHS, we support children and young people whose needs can make everyday life challenging. This includes young people with learning disabilities, Autism, ADHD, ODD, complex mental health needs and trauma. Young people may experience emotional dysregulation, anxiety, communication difficulties, sensory needs or behaviours that challenge. Others may be facing family breakdown, placement instability or periods of crisis.

You’ll be there for young people during their most difficult moments, helping them feel safe and understood, but you’ll also share in their achievements, adventures and everyday successes. This is more than a care role. It’s an opportunity to build trusting relationships, help young people discover their strengths, develop independence and enjoy being young.

What you'll do

*

Develop trusting, therapeutic relationships and create an environment where young people feel safe, valued and understood.

*

Be there when it matters most and support young people through challenging moments, using positive behaviour approaches, patience and effective de-escalation to help them feel safe.

*

Help shape their support by reading, understanding and following individual care plans, while contributing to their development and review through your observations and ideas.

*

Make memories and have fun by planning activities, explore the community, encourage new interests and create opportunities for young people to enjoy positive experiences.

*

Share updates, achievements and concerns at meetings with professionals, ensuring each young person's views and needs are heard.

*

Collaborate with colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide consistent, joined-up support.

*

Capture their progress and use Health Automated, our care planning system, to complete daily and nightly records documenting the support provided, achievements, progress and challenges.

*

Recognise risks, respond appropriately to changing needs and promote the safety and wellbeing of young people and those around them.

What you'll bring

*

At least 12 months’ experience working with children and young people in a support role, ideally within mental health, residential care, social care or a similar setting. This can include relevant employment, placements or practical experience gained through a mental health nursing or related degree.

*

Experience supporting young people with a range of mental health, emotional, behavioural and developmental needs.

*

The ability to build trusting relationships with young people who may be reluctant to engage or find it difficult to communicate their needs.

*

Excellent written and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with young people, families, colleagues and professionals.

*

A compassionate, patient and resilient approach, with a genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential.

*

Previous experience using electronic care planning systems to read and update care plans and record daily support.

*

GCSEs or equivalent education.

*

A willingness to undertake in-person PMVA training as required.

An Enhanced DBS check will be completed as part of the pre-employment process following a successful offer of employment.
