We are currently recruiting for a Marine & Energy Claims Manager on behalf of our client, a very highly regarded and well-known Lloyd’s Syndicate with an award winning claims team.

The successful candidate will manage both the Marine & Energy lines of business, with responsibility for an expansive portfolio, including Marine Liability, Hull & Machinery, Cargo and Offshore Energy.

You will also work alongside Underwriters that are market leading experts in their specialist areas, with extensive experience both inside and outside of the insurance market.

Key Responsibilities

• Proactively and effectively manage claims, ranging in complexity, within a pre-determined authority level in accordance with the syndicate's London Claims commitment, philosophy and procedures.
• Overall responsibility for claims strategy within the class and effective delegation to ensure all claims within the class are managed, progressed and resolved in a timely manner, whilst adhering to internal and external standards for claims handling and customer service.
• Monitor claims trends, issues and movements, as well as relevant legal/regulatory changes and Market developments, and update the Head of Claims/wider Claims team accordingly; make recommendations in respect of Claims processes and resolution strategies, in conjunction with the Head of Claims Operations.
• Manage a team dedicated to the specific class of business (Marine & Energy), assuming responsibility for the team’s individual performance management, development etc., whilst also acting as both a referral point and role model for less experienced members across the Claims function.
• As required, attend and report at various internal committee and Board meetings, such as the Claims Review Committee, working closely with the Head of Claims.
• As required, attend and report at class level Underwriting Management meetings, working closely with other members of the Claims team as required.
• Responsible for management reporting and claims data management within the specific class.
• Responsible for client and broker liaison for the class and attend conferences, as agreed with the Head of Claims.
• Develop strong relationships with peers across the Market and within the syndicate.
• Responsible for ensuring our Underwriters and other internal stakeholders are kept informed of valuable claims information and/or issues and advise on subsequent impact on underwriting and policy interpretation.
• Work in conjunction with the Claims Managers and Senior Claims Adjusters across other lines, sharing knowledge and skills where appropriate, to ensure the Claims team is working as efficiently as possible.

Key Requirements

• Significant experience of handling complex Marine and Energy claims with a strong understanding of London Market Claims systems.
• Demonstrable leadership / management experience, being able to motivate a team.
• Excellent communication, networking, influencing and negotiation skills.
• Experience of building solid relationships with clients, with strong client management skills.
• Dip CII / ACII qualified or working towards is desirable but not essential.
