Classroom Assistant (EAL)

Protocol Education works closely with welcoming and diverse primary schools across BS16 that are looking for enthusiastic and compassionate EAL (English as an Additional Language) Classroom Support Assistants to help children settle into school, develop their confidence and thrive in the classroom.

Many of the pupils within these schools are new to English or speak another language at home. As a result, schools highly value individuals who can help bridge communication gaps, build positive relationships with families and support children as they develop their English language skills.

Whilst speaking an additional language is not essential, it can be a fantastic asset. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who speak Somali, Polish, Ukrainian, Romanian, Arabic, Pashto, Urdu, Bengali or other community languages.

This is a rewarding opportunity for anyone who is passionate about inclusion, enjoys working with children and wants to help every pupil feel welcomed, understood and successful in school.

Pay: £14.25 - £15.25 per hour (paid weekly via PAYE)

Your Role Could Include:

Supporting children who are learning English as an additional language
Helping pupils access lessons and classroom activities
Building confidence with communication, vocabulary and social interaction
Providing one-to-one and small-group support
Assisting teachers with adapting learning activities where needed
Supporting children as they settle into school routines
Encouraging inclusion, participation and positive engagement
Building positive relationships with pupils, families and staff

A Bit About You

Experience working with children or young people is desirable
Passionate about supporting pupils from diverse backgrounds
Patient, nurturing and encouraging in your approach
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Able to support children with varying levels of English proficiency
Confident working as part of a school team
Understanding of SEND, SEMH or additional learning needs is beneficial
Additional language skills such as Somali, Polish, Ukrainian or other community languages are highly valued

A CV covering the last 10 years of work or education, with any gaps explained
References covering the last two years
An overseas police check if you have lived abroad for three months or more within the last five years

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
