Job Description - Client Manager

Our client is a long-established and highly respected independent accountancy practice based in Chester, with over 20 years of successful trading. With a close-knit team of 14 staff - including a Partner/Director, Senior Manager, two qualified accountants, and a payroll team - the firm fosters a collaborative and supportive working culture.

Known for its hands-on, tailored approach, the firm works primarily with SMEs and owner-managed businesses, providing a full suite of services including accounting, tax, audit, and advisory. Due to internal progression, they are now seeking an ambitious Client Manager to step into a client-facing role with leadership potential.

This is an ideal role for an ACA or ACCA-qualified accountant (or a finalist with strong practice experience) ready to take ownership of a varied portfolio. The Client Manager will provide expert service delivery while supporting the development of junior staff and helping the practice grow.

Client Manager Job Overview
  • Manage a portfolio of SME and OMB clients across sectors
  • Be the primary point of contact for client queries
  • Prepare/review statutory accounts, management accounts, VAT and corporation tax returns
  • Support and lead audit assignments alongside senior staff
  • Supervise and review work of junior and semi-senior team members
  • Ensure timely compliance with tax and accounting regulations
  • Identify opportunities for value-added services and business growth
  • Liaise with HMRC and other external bodies on client matters
  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver exceptional service
Client Manager Job Requirements
  • ACA or ACCA qualified (or finalist with relevant experience)
  • Background in practice, preferably within an independent firm
  • Experience in accounts prep, tax compliance, and audit exposure
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Team player with mentoring experience
  • Commercially aware and eager to progress
Client Manager Salary & Benefits
  • Salary: Up to £55,000 salary (DOE)
  • Working Hours: 35-hour work week. Flexible working hours & hybrid model (2 WFH days)
