Orthopaedic Clinical Lead - Theatre

As a Orthopaedic and spinal clinical lead at our Manor Hospital, you’re registered with the appropriate governing body and you have the relevant qualifications and experience.
As the Clinical Lead you will need to:
Clinical Leadership & Practice Standards
Provide expert professional and clinical leadership to Orthopaedic theatre teams
Act as the specialist lead for orthopaedic surgical procedures and theatre workfl ows
Set, monitor, and maintain high standards of peri‑operative care in line with national guidance, Trust policies, and SOPs
Demonstrate visible leadership, promoting professionalism, accountability, and a culture of safety
Governance, Quality & Patient Safety
Lead clinical governance within orthopaedic theatres
Ensure compliance with WHO surgical safety standards, infection prevention, implant traceability, and documentation
Lead investigations into incidents, complications, and near misses, ensuring timely reporting and learning
Embed learning from audits, incidents, and GIRFT recommendations into clinical practice
Insuring NGR compliance and submissions.
Service Delivery & Operational Oversight
Work collaboratively with theatre management to optimise list utilisation, improve patient flow, and reduce cancellations
Contribute to capacity planning, service resilience, and business continuity
Support delivery of elective and trauma activity in line with performance targets
Line Management & Workforce Leadership
Act as line manager for designated Orthopaedic theatre staff
Lead appraisals, performance management, and professional development planning
Manage sickness absence and promote staff wellbeing, engagement, and retention
Support workforce planning, safe staffing levels, and appropriate skill mix
Education, Training & Competency Management
Ensure all staff are appropriately trained, competent, and compliant within orthopaedic practice
Oversee induction, competency assessment, and ongoing professional development
Facilitate education related to new equipment, implants, and surgical techniques
Surgical first assistant qualification preferred.
Equipment, Implants & Resource Oversight
Work with procurement, sterile services, and suppliers to ensure safe, cost-effective, and timely provision of equipment and implants
Lead evaluation, standardisation, and optimisation of orthopaedic resources
Support the implementation of new technologies and innovation
Multidisciplinary Collaboration & Communication
Represent orthopaedic theatres at governance, operational, and strategic meetings
Promote effective multidisciplinary teamwork and communication
Foster a positive safety culture and collaborative working environment
Quality Improvement & Service Development
Lead and contribute to quality improvement, audit, and service transformation initiatives
Drive innovation and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes and efficiency
IT & Digital Skills
Demonstrate basic proficiency in Microsoft Windows and standard office applications
Use Workday and other Trust systems for workforce management, training compliance, and staff records
Maintain accurate electronic documentation in line with Trust requirements

We operate 6 well equipped and modern operating theatres with 64 well-presented ensuite rooms.
We cater for inpatient and day care, providing a broad range of surgical specialties and clinics including Paediatrics, Oncology, Interventional Cardiology & Radiology, Orthopaedics, Endoscopy, Gynaecology, Urology, Ophthalmology as well as women’s and men’s health clinics. The hospital is located with excellent transport links by road and rail, both to and from London, Thames Valley, and the Midlands.
The theatre complex at The Manor Hospital consists of 6 operating theatres an intervention room and cardiac Cath lab. In addition we provide support in CT and MRI for GA’s including children.
