Job Description - Clinical Negligence Claims Handler

Job Description

Main responsibility of the role:

To proactively review insurance policies and claims. Will work within authority on claims of varied technical complexity. Determines liability and quantum, secures information and settles claims utilising claims policies and guidelines relevant to the industry with a view to achieving good outcomes for both the insured and the claimant.

Key Accountabilities:
Recognises issues with policy coverages and escalates issues as needed.
Sets tasks, reserves and authorises payment within scope of authority, settling claims in most cost effective and timely manner. Ensures prompt issuance of disbursements while effectively managing loss costs and claim expenses.
Participates in performing investigations and evaluating claims through contact with solicitors, brokers, insureds, claimants, witnesses and experts.
Identify and escalate serious claim developments to management efficiently and effectively.
Recognises need for negotiation, participates in planning strategy and negotiates within scope of authority.
Responsible for input of data that accurately reflects claim circumstances and other information important to our business outcomes.
Keeps current on relevant issues, regulations and trends.
Comply with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills required:
Knowledge of claims and insurance industry theories and practices is desirable.
Ability to maintain an open mind and be responsive to change.
Clear analytical skills.
Effectively prioritise and adhere to deadlines.
Regular reviews of Insurance principles and guidance.
Competently use agreed processes/methods to achieve objectives.
Able to interact and communicate with team members and senior management in a respectful manner.
Ability to work independently. Good time management

TRAINING
Conduct training will be completed with all staff during 2024 and will form part of our annual training requirements.

Job

Full-time, Monday-Friday 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break
