Cloud Engineer - National Security

Our client is a leading digital intelligence and national security consultancy, recognised among Glassdoor's Best Places to Work. As a Cloud Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering modern cloud-native solutions that support mission-critical national security programmes. Working within highly skilled, multidisciplinary teams, you'll design and implement innovative cloud architectures that enable organisations to collect, connect and understand complex data in high-trust environments.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Cloud Engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges, enjoys working with cutting-edge AWS technologies, and wants to contribute to work that has real impact at national scale.

Due to the nature of the role, you must be eligible to undergo both SC and DV Clearance. This means you must be a Sole-British National and you must have not left the UK for >30 Consecutive Days in the Last 5 Years.

You'll have the opportunity to:
  • Design and build cloud-native architectures in secure, high-assurance environments
  • Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tooling such as Terraform, CloudFormation or CDK
  • Implement secure and scalable AWS services following best practice
  • Build and manage infrastructure through configuration management tooling
  • Work closely with stakeholders across engineering, operations and security
  • Create exemplar patterns and reusable assets to uplift delivery teams
  • Contribute to high-quality solutions that drive mission-critical outcomes
  • For senior Cloud Engineers, lead teams and guide junior engineers
Your Responsibilities:

As a Cloud Engineer, you will:
  • Architect, deploy and maintain cloud-native solutions using AWS services
  • Use Terraform or CDK to automate and provision infrastructure
  • Implement configuration management using tools such as Puppet, Chef or Ansible
  • Develop secure networking patterns within cloud environments
  • Work with container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes, ECS or OpenShift
  • Script in Python, Bash or Go to support automation and tooling
  • Manage software configuration including source control and versioning
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support delivery
  • Ensure cloud solutions follow robust security practices
  • Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture focused on innovation and quality
Key Requirements:

As a Cloud Engineer, you should have:
  • Strong experience across AWS services, with a desire to stay current with new releases
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform, CloudFormation or CDK
  • Experience using configuration management tools (Puppet, Chef, Ansible etc.)
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals and software-defined networking in cloud
  • Experience with Kubernetes, ECS, OpenShift or other orchestration platforms
  • Scripting skills in Python, Bash or Go
  • Awareness of cloud security concepts and best practices
  • AWS certifications are desirable but not essential (training provided)
