CMM Programmer - Precision Engineering
We are currently recruiting for an experienced and detail-focused CMM Programmer to join the Inspection and Quality team of an established precision engineering and advanced manufacturing business.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced metrology professional who takes pride in precision, accuracy and quality and wants to work within a technically advanced manufacturing environment.
The business manufactures complex, high-precision components for demanding industries including automotive, motorsport, defence and medical, using modern CNC machining technology, multi-axis machining centres and advanced inspection systems.
The Role:
As a CMM Programmer, you will be responsible for programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines using PC-DMIS software to inspect complex, precision-machined components.
You will play a key role in ensuring components meet customer specifications, engineering requirements and quality standards, while working closely with Production, Engineering and Quality teams to resolve conformity issues and support continuous improvement.
The role would suit someone with a strong background in CMM programming, metrology and precision inspection, who is confident working from complex engineering drawings and GD&T requirements.
Key Responsibilities: Program and operate CMM machines using PC-DMIS. Create, edit and optimise CMM inspection programmes. Carry out dimensional inspection of high-precision machined components. Perform first-off, in-process and final inspections. Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T and technical specifications. Produce accurate inspection reports and quality documentation. Use a range of manual inspection equipment, including: Micrometres Verniers Gauges Height gauges Support root-cause investigations and quality improvement activities. Work closely with Production, Engineering and Quality teams to resolve inspection and conformity issues. Ensure inspection activities comply with customer requirements and internal quality procedures. Maintain inspection equipment in a safe and serviceable condition. Maintain a clean, organised and professional inspection environment. Work in accordance with Health & Safety and Quality Management Systems. Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support business objectives.
About You:
You will have a proven background in CMM programming and precision inspection, ideally within a manufacturing or precision engineering environment.
You should be confident using PC-DMIS and have a strong understanding of engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances and GD&T.
A methodical approach and excellent attention to detail are essential, as you will be responsible for ensuring complex components meet demanding technical and quality requirements.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Proven experience programming and operating CMM machines. Strong practical experience using PC-DMIS software. Excellent understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T. Experience inspecting high-precision machined components. Strong knowledge of inspection techniques and manufacturing quality standards. Experience using manual inspection equipment such as micrometres, verniers, gauges and height gauges. Strong organisational and communication skills. Excellent attention to detail. Quality-focused and methodical approach. Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively. Proven experience in a similar CMM Programmer / CMM Inspection / Metrology role.
Desirable Experience:
Experience within any of the following sectors would be advantageous:
Automotive Motorsport Defence Medical manufacturing Precision engineering Advanced manufacturing
Additional experience in quality engineering, quality systems, root-cause analysis or continuous improvement would also be beneficial.
Qualifications GCSEs or equivalent preferred. Engineering, manufacturing or quality-related qualifications would be advantageous. A proven track record in a similar CMM programming or inspection position is essential.
