CNC Miller – Setter / Programmer

Our client is a well-established, family-run precision engineering business based in Standish, Wigan, with over 75 years of engineering experience.

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Miller – Setter / Programmer to join the manufacturing team.

You will be responsible for producing high-precision machined components on CNC machining centres, working from detailed engineering drawings and specifications.

The role offers plenty of variety, covering one-off components through to medium-batch production, making it an excellent opportunity for an experienced machinist who enjoys working on varied and technically challenging projects.

Key Responsibilities

Set and operate CNC machining centres.

Programme CNC machines, either on-machine or offline depending on experience.

Read and interpret engineering drawings.

Select appropriate tooling, work-holding and cutting tools.

Set machines accurately and efficiently.

Produce first-off components for inspection and approval.

Inspect finished components using precision measuring equipment.

Maintain consistently high quality standards.

Make tooling and machining adjustments where required.

Identify and resolve machining issues.

Assist with improving machining methods, processes and cycle times.

Work closely with production and inspection teams.

Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

Time-served machinist or equivalent practical engineering experience.

Previous experience setting CNC machining centres.

Ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings.

Good understanding of engineering tolerances.

Competent using precision measuring equipment.

Excellent attention to detail.

Good problem-solving skills.

Positive and proactive attitude.

Reliable and punctual.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Experience

Experience with Haas and/or Fanuc controls.

Previous 5-axis machining experience.

Knowledge of OneCNC software.

Experience machining stainless steel, alloy steels and aluminium.

Experience working on one-off and medium-batch precision components.
