CNC Turner Setter / Operator

The Role

We are currently looking for an experienced CNC Turner Setter / Operator to join the production team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting and operating CNC turning machines to manufacture precision-engineered components in accordance with customer drawings and specifications.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CNC Turner to join a stable, long-established engineering business offering varied work, overtime opportunities and ongoing development.

Key Responsibilities

Set and operate CNC lathes in accordance with engineering drawings and route cards.

Load, prove out and run CNC programmes.

Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures and work-holding equipment.

Produce first-off components for inspection and approval.

Carry out in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment.

Read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances.

Maintain dimensional accuracy throughout production runs.

Adjust machine offsets and tooling to maintain product quality.

Complete production and quality documentation accurately.

Work in accordance with ISO 9001 quality procedures and company operating standards.

Ensure components are correctly identified and handled throughout manufacture.

Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment in line with 5S principles.

Carry out routine machine maintenance and report faults promptly.

Work efficiently to achieve production targets while maintaining high-quality standards.

Assist with continuous improvement activities.

Support colleagues and contribute positively to the wider production team.

Skills & Experience

Essential

Previous experience setting and operating CNC turning machines.

Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.

Competent using micrometers, verniers, bore gauges and other precision measuring equipment.

Good understanding of machining tolerances.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Good problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Flexible approach to overtime when required.

Desirable

Experience with Fanuc controls.

Experience producing precision components within a subcontract engineering environment.

Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.

Apprentice-trained or equivalent engineering qualification.

Experience machining a range of materials, including steels, stainless steels, aluminium and exotic alloys.

Quality & Health and Safety

You will be expected to:

Produce components that fully conform to customer drawings and specifications.

Stop production and report any quality concerns immediately.

Complete inspection and quality records accurately.

Follow all company quality procedures.

Comply with company Health & Safety procedures.

Wear the required PPE.

Report hazards, accidents and near misses promptly.

Maintain high standards of housekeeping around machinery.
