Job Description - CNC Wood Machinist

We are recruiting for an experienced CNC Wood Machinist to join an established manufacturing business based in East Kilbride.

The company manufactures bespoke panels and components for the retail, hospitality and commercial interiors sectors, working on a wide variety of projects for customers across the UK.

This is a hands-on position where the key requirement is previous experience setting and operating CNC flat-bed nesting machinery.

The business operates a 3-axis SEM flat-bed nesting machine, with Alphacam used for programming and creating toolpaths. Previous experience with SEM machinery or Alphacam would be advantageous but is not essential, with training available for the right person.

Candidates from woodworking, shopfitting, furniture, kitchen manufacturing and panel-processing environments would be particularly relevant. However, candidates from metalworking or other CNC manufacturing backgrounds will also be considered, provided they have the required flat-bed CNC nesting experience.

The Role

As CNC Wood Machinist, your responsibilities will include:

* Setting and operating a 3-axis CNC flat-bed nesting machine

* Producing panels and components accurately to job specifications

* Loading and running CNC programmes

* Checking tooling and machine set-ups prior to production

* Monitoring machining operations and making adjustments where required

* Reading and working from technical drawings and production information

* Carrying out quality checks on completed components

* Working with a range of panel-based materials

* Identifying and resolving basic machining and production issues

* Working closely with the Production Manager to ensure jobs are completed accurately and efficiently

* Supporting other areas of the manufacturing process when required

The site also operates beam saw and edgebanding equipment. Previous experience with either would be useful, but is not required, as full training can be provided.

What We're Looking For

The main requirement for this position is previous hands-on experience setting and operating CNC flat-bed nesting machinery.

You should:

* Have previous experience setting and operating CNC flat-bed nesting machines

* Understand CNC tooling, machine set-up and machining processes

* Be comfortable loading and running CNC programmes

* Be able to work accurately from drawings and job specifications

* Be able to monitor machining operations and identify basic issues

* Have a strong approach to quality and attention to detail

* Be comfortable working independently as part of a busy manufacturing team

Experience with Alphacam or similar CAD/CAM software would be advantageous but is not essential. Training can be provided for an experienced CNC machinist looking to further develop their programming knowledge.

What's On Offer

* £30,000 – £40,000 DOE

* Hourly paid position

* Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm

* Permanent day shift

* Weekday overtime paid at 1.3x

* Weekend overtime paid at 1.5x

* Training on Alphacam where required
