Job Description - Co-CEO

  • £38 per hour (with review after 6 months). This is a contracted role of around 120 hours per month, with flexible worktimes as agreed with the current CEO.

GrowBiz Scotland is a unique rural enterprise support organisation - for anyone thinking of becoming self-employed,or starting/growing a small business or social enterprise.

We are looking for an inspirational and experienced Co-CEO to share the current CEO’s workload. This is a diverse anddemanding leadership role within a complex organisation focused on building sustainable and resiliententerprises and communities, both geographically and in key sectors across rural Scotland. The successfulcandidate will have significant strategic development experience, particularly in the business support and localeconomic development arenas.

With a base in Perth & Kinross, but working across Scotland, GrowBiz’s community-based approach createsself-sustaining networks and is effective in raising awareness of enterprise and business potential amongunder-represented groups. As a leader in innovative rural enterprise support GrowBiz actively advocates forchange and our vision is to promote and support the development of a vibrant, sustainable and inclusiveentrepreneurial rural economy.

In addition to core services such as 1-1 support, learning sessions, mentoring and networking, GrowBiz manages anumber of innovative projects and programmes, including Perthshire Artisans, Rural Enterprise Directory Scotland(REDS), Ruractive (European-wide project), SEED (support for young entrepreneurs), WRAP (programme to supportmental health resilience), and a social enterprise network in Perth & Kinross. It has a cross-cuttingcommitment to net zero and supporting rural businesses to adapt to climate change. GrowBiz works with a widerange of funding and strategic partners, including Perth & Kinross Council, Cairngorms National ParkAuthority, SRUC, James Hutton Institute and the Scottish Government Rural Economy team.

GrowBiz services are delivered by a team of self-employed contractors with individual areas of experience andexpertise. As professionals they are responsible for managing their own working patterns and communication withother contractors and the senior management team.

The Role

The role requires someone who is confident dealing with a wide range of stakeholders, including funders, publicagencies, local and national government and a diverse client base of businesses in every sector.

We are looking for someone who is people-focussed – GrowBiz’s support model is relational and aims to connect ruralbusinesses with opportunities to develop and grow sustainably. Coaching or mentoring experience would bebeneficial.

Working closely with the current CEO and GrowBiz’s Board of Trustees, you will facilitate the delivery of thestrategic aims of GrowBiz underpinned by its principles, values and vision, aligning GrowBiz activities withcommunity wealth building, wellbeing economy and net zero strategies. Identifying and developingincome-generating opportunities and coordination of funding bids will be core to the role.

The role will involve sharing the current CEO’s wide range of management and leadership responsibilities andrepresenting GrowBiz and rural business at key internal and external meetings.

You will be proactive, self-motivated and an exceptional communicator, with a proven track record of innovative andinspirational leadership and establishing strong professional working relationships. An agile and flexibleapproach is essential to enable smart working across the team and in response to client needs and local andnational economic strategies.

You will be helping disabled people feel unstoppable. As Family Support Team Lead in the North of Scotland you willbe delivering vital support to families affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

You will be the person who will empower them to reach their potential, offering one to one support and coordinatingchances for people to get together, make friends and build their support network.

You will be the person that raises awareness of spina bifida and hydrocephalus within the community and with serviceproviders to ensure that no one affected by our conditions feels alone.

Key duties and responsibilities:

To be as unstoppable as the people we support.

  • To coordinate the delivery of engaging social groups for our children, young people, adults and theircarers.
  • To provide one to one support to people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus and their families –offering specialist information and advice.
  • To work with families and people with spina bifida andhydrocephalus to help them advocate for services and support.

To be a team player who unifies people around our cause.

  • To liaise and work in partnership with other statutory and voluntary organisations to respond to and developresources to meet the needs of service users.
  • To manage and motivate a small team of sessional workersand recruit volunteers.
  • To work with fundraising and communications colleagues in identifying storiesthat can promote the work of the charity and motivate our service users, supporters and staff.

A commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

  • To provide regular analysis of the service’s impact.
  • To ensure that reporting and recording of all service user intervention is accurate, up to date and secure.
  • To gather data and feedback to learn from failures and apply learning to improve processes and service delivery.
  • To ensure all Safeguarding disclosures and regular updates are notified and recorded as per current SBH Scotland guidelines.

Job Summary

The role of Programme Lead (Training and Reconciliation) is a key new position in supporting Place for Hope’sstrategic goal of growing our partnerships with faith communities to support and equip more people to reachtheir potential as peacemakers.

The Programme Lead will co-ordinate all work related to our new 5-year partnership with the United Reformed Church(URC). The partnership will involve two key areas (i) the development and staged roll-out of a mediation teamwithin the URC who will work ecumenically with the wider Place for Hope Practitioner team; and (ii) embeddingthe understanding, skills, and confidence in how to deal well with conflict, change and difference through a setprogramme of trainings.

The Programme Lead will draw on the entire Place for Hope team (staff and volunteers) to develop and deliver anagreed 5-year programme plan. The role will also involve supporting the wider work of Place for Hope,particularly working with our training team to deliver our training programme (online and in-person) with a widerange of partners.

Previous experience of project management, training, as well as excellent organisational and communication skills areessential to the role. The ideal candidate would also have an interest in supporting faith communities totransform conflict and a willingness to undertake CPD provided by Place for Hope to build their knowledge andskills in this area. This is an exciting time to join Place for Hope and play a pivotal role in equippingindividuals and faith communities to choose peace in times of fear and division.
