Job Description - College Counsellor

We have an opportunity available for a

College Counsellor

to join our team based in

Northwich . The role is offered on a part, permanent basis, working 15 hours over two days (Thursday and Friday), term time only. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £29,346.00 - £32,239.00 Annually (FTE).
About the College Counsellor role:
Reporting to the Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead you will work as part of our Achievement & Support department to promote the emotional wellbeing of students.
Applicants do not necessarily need to have experience of working in education but should be passionate about the sector. You will join a team of experienced counselling professionals who provide a dedicated counselling service to students. The counselling team work closely with all our pastoral support departments and the safeguarding team.
The successful candidate must have a recognised qualification in counselling and experience of working with children and young people. They must have a warm and compassionate approach with the ability to quickly build rapport with students.
Your responsibilities as our College Counsellor:
Offering to students an individual counselling service, employing a variety of counselling techniques tailored to individual needs
Offering a model of counselling that enables students to work towards a state of independence
Working with a diverse range of issues including but not limited to bereavement and loss, eating disorders and self-harm, depression and anxiety
Maintaining systems of referral and confidential record keeping
Being aware of equal opportunities issues relating to the counselling process
Being familiar with relevant legislation (e.g. Safeguarding, equality diversity and inclusion and Prevent) and to ensure compliance
Referring any safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead
Implementing appropriate personal, technical and organisational measures to ensure that data processing is performed in accordance with UK GDPR, and review and update those measures where necessary
Carrying out such other duties, as the job develops, as may be reasonably required by the Principal in accordance with the College's flexible approach to the efficient delivery of a quality support service.
What were looking for in our ideal College Counsellor:
Relevant degree or equivalent qualification
Post-graduate qualification in Counselling, minimum Diploma standard
Professional registration with BACP, UKCP or equivalent
An understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues of students
Knowledge of local mental health and CAMHS
Post qualification counselling experience
Experience of working with children and young people
The ability to work autonomously and independently
