Job Description - Commercial Finance Analyst

This exciting role is within the Commercial Finance team of a well-established and growing business. The role consists of regular trading reporting and assisting the Senior Commercial Finance Manager and their key stakeholders in analysing and reporting on the key business drivers, with emphasis on sales, margin and branch costs to improve store performance.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the production of daily, weekly, monthly trading reports and analysis of margins outside of specific tolerances
Be a key player in the preparation of the annual budget and rolling forecasts working alongside stakeholders from across the business
Support the Commercial Finance team in analysing store costs and impact on budget/forecast
Sensitivity analysis and ‘what if’ scenario modelling to help with trading improvement decision making
Preparation and posting of month end journals
Ownership of preparing and distributing monthly store P&L’s
Production and distribution of month end reporting files
Business partner with stores to understand performance vs budget, promptly highlighting areas of concern, focus or potential improvement and answer P&L queries
Rebates analysis and reconciliation
Ad hoc finance analysis for projects and trading queries

Skills & Experience Required

Confident and experienced at using data analysis tools and software, like Excel, Power BI and SQL to handle high volumes of data
Proven experience of month end journals, P&L and balance sheet
Ambition to study for an accountancy qualification (AAT, CIMA, ACCA) – study support will be provided
Willingness to learn combined with a ‘can-do’ attitude.
Good analytical, problem-solving, and logical thinking skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to summarise and explain complex data in simple and clear ways
Basic Knowledge of financial concepts, principles, and practices, like budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and KPIs, especially related to sales and margin
Enjoys communicating within and across teams
Proactive in looking for improvements
Full driving license – some UK travel may be required

Desirable

AAT part or fully qualified
Experience in a fast-paced large volume environment
