We’re looking for an experienced Commercial Underwriter to join a growing specialist lender. You’ll play a critical role in managing cases from initial application through to drawdown, ensuring all loans meet regulatory standards and internal risk appetite.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll take ownership of your own pipeline of commercial cases, working closely with brokers, solicitors, and internal teams to ensure a smooth and compliant customer journey from start to finish.

Key responsibilities:

• Managing cases from application to completion, ensuring timely and thorough assessments.
• Underwriting within defined criteria and lending policy, applying sound commercial judgment.
• Maintaining strong relationships with intermediaries, providing updates and guidance throughout the process.
• Liaising with solicitors and third parties to coordinate completions.
• Ensuring due diligence, affordability, and responsible lending practices are consistently applied.
• Supporting colleagues and contributing to wider underwriting team performance as needed.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

We’re looking for someone who’s confident in making decisions, thrives under pressure, and can balance speed with accuracy.

Essential skills & experience:

• Previous underwriting experience in commercial or specialist finance.
• Strong understanding of the lending lifecycle, from enquiry through to drawdown.
• Familiarity with FCA regulations and responsible lending principles.
• Ability to manage a fast-moving pipeline while maintaining high attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Desirable:

• CeMAP qualified (not essential but beneficial).
• Experience working in a regulated lending environment.
