Job Description - Commercial Lead (Maternity Cover)

Freddie’s Flowers was founded by Freddie Garland in October 2014 with one ambition: to change people’s relationship with flowers. We believe flowers aren’t only for grand occasions, but they make every day special, inspiring creativity and sparking joy.

Our starting point was our direct-to-consumer subscription model, helping us grow a loyal UK following. We launched in Germany in 2020, and then in 2021 we secured significant backing from The Craftory, a like-minded purpose-led global investment house, helping us expand, develop and grow. 2023 saw us start our gifting service – bringing the best of Freddie’s Flowers to everyone who needs it (even last minute!).

From the seed of an idea we continue to flourish; we’re now a B Corp organisation, certified Carbon Neutral (by the Carbon Trust). And our founding mission remains unchanged – to change the world of flowers, and to change the world with flowers.

About The Role:

A strategic and commercially-focused role that aims to drive growth and value creation for the business. This should be achieved by developing and executing a data/insight-driven commercial strategy that sets out the business’ key objectives and growth initiatives. The role requires a deep understanding of customer behaviour across the lifecycle, as well as market dynamics, consumer trends and the target customer.

The Commercial Lead will be responsible for driving business performance through detailed analytics of the customer base and market trends, recommendations to mitigate risks and drive long-term value through growth initiatives as well as the cross-functional leadership of those ideas through to implementation.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Developing and implementing a commercial strategy (together with the marketing team) that aligns with and delivers on the company’s business strategy and objectives
    • Market analysis (market trends, consumer behaviour, competitive landscape)
    • Target customers (profile and needs)
    • Product proposition (across subscription & gifting)
    • Pricing & promotional strategy
    • Marketing & sales channels
  • Creating and executing a data-driven customer strategy (including customer segmentation based on drivers and indicators of value and retention/churn)
  • Supporting  commercial reporting activities, with additional analysis across sales, marketing & brand performance and customer value metrics
  • Analysis of business performance and customer behaviour to drive insights and identify opportunities for value-creation and growth
  • Identifying and evaluating new commercial opportunities and growth initiatives based on market and consumer trends, competitor analysis etc.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to execute on those opportunities and initiatives working across marketing, product and operations to ensure successful launch and post-evaluation 
  • Providing commercial support to review and prioritise business initiatives (including creating business cases as appropriate)
  • Providing commercial leadership to all stakeholders, and building a commercial mindset across the business
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements (including but not limited to data protection and GDPR)
  • Supporting the business’ ESG strategy, including providing necessary reporting & analysis, supporting our sustainability credentials (e.g. B Corp) and considering ESG factors when evaluating business partners and suppliers
  • Proven track record of delivering sales growth in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, with experience in DTC / ecommerce
  • Demonstrate a strategic approach, with the ability to evaluate various/diverse data points and insights to drive business direction and decision-making
  • Structured/logical thinker, with excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong communicator, capable of presenting information and ideas in a clear and concise format that offers actionable insights and conclusions
  • Able to use proactivity and initiative to identify opportunities for value creation and growth
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and resources effectively, as well as having the conviction/confidence to hold people/the business to account when necessary
  • Excellent stakeholder management, including working with and influencing senior leaders, demonstrating the ability to think both operationally and strategically
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Have a continuous improvement mindset, and implement positive change/ development across people, processes and systems
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree
