Job Description - Commercial Manager

Purpose

As the Commercial Manager you will be responsible for advising group companies on legal compliance, contract negotiations, commercial agreements and general risk management.

You will provide guidance and support to business units regarding their commercial strategy including negotiating and agreeing contracts, dispute resolution, debt collection and financial risk.

My client is a global engineering group who are continuing to grow and have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join their team.

Key Responsibilities & Accountability

Support business units to ensure they meet commercial and legal requirements

Develop and maintain suite of company standard contractual terms and conditions

Develop and provide training on commercial, contractual and insurance matters

Appreciation and ability to assist overseas business units in commercial and legal matters

Offer direction and support regarding commercial matters ensuring business units adhere to contractual obligations

Negotiate with clients, customers and suppliers to agree standard terms and conditions

Audit business units to ensure full compliance with commercial procedures and corporate governance requirements

Assist in resolving disputes, claims, and litigation in collaboration with external legal counsel.

Lead the group insurance programme placement

Dealing with insurance claims

Provide support on property related legal matters

Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes

The successful applicant will possess:-

5+ years in a Quantity Surveying or Commercial Manager position

Financial and commercial acumen

Excellent eye for detail

Ability to influence, guide and support teams

Relevant HNC or degree

Eligible of achieving SC clearance

Experience of work in the forces particularly Navy

Experience of dealing with contract terms and conditions

Drivers licence

Ability to travel

Well presented and businesslike. Sufficiently mobile and flexible to travel up to a few days a month within the UK, with occasional overseas travel. Keen for new experience, responsibility and accountability. Able to get on with others and be a team-player.

Business Awareness: The ability to understand the business implications of decisions and the ability to strive to improve operational performance. It requires an awareness of business issues, processes and outcomes as they impact the client’s and the Organisation’s business needs

Manage Organisational Resources: The ability to understand and effectively manage organisational resources (e.g. people, materials, assets, budgets). This is demonstrated through measurement, planning, control of resources to maximize results. It requires an evaluation of qualitative (e.g. client satisfaction) and quantative (e.g. service costs) needs.

Problem Solving & Judgement: The ability to analyse problems systematically, organize information, identify key factors, identify underlying causes and generate solutions

Results Orientation: The concern for surpassing a standard of excellence. The standard may be one’s own past performance (striving for improvement); an objective measure (achievement orientation); challenging goals that one has set; or even improving or surpassing what has already been done (continuous improvement). Thus, a unique accomplishment also indicates a Result Orientation.

Planning Organising & co-ordinating: Proactively planning, establishing priorities and allocating resources. It is expressed by developing and implementing increasingly complex plans. It also involves monitoring and adjusting work to accomplish goals and deliver to the organisation’s mandate.

Improving Operations: The ability and motivation to apply one’s knowledge and past experience for improving upon current modes of operation. This behaviour ranges from adapting widely used approaches to developing entirely new value-added solutions.

Impact & Influence: The ability to influence, persuade or convince others to adopt a specific course of action. It involved the use of persuasive techniques, presentations or negotiation skills to achieve desired results.
