Our client is an established and growing contractor delivering civil engineering, groundworks and reinforced concrete frame projects across the South of England.
The business undertakes a broad range of technically challenging work, including reinforced concrete structures, infrastructure, drainage, earthworks, external works, demolition and remediation.
About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to take responsibility for the commercial performance of multiple projects from tender stage through to completion and final account.
This is a hands-on position requiring someone who remains technically strong in measurement, take-offs, pricing and contract administration. You will work closely with the operational team, manage commercial risk and support the continued development of the company’s Quantity Surveyors.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Full commercial management of multiple projects
* Reviewing tenders and carrying out commercial appraisals
* Preparing monthly CVRs, forecasts and commercial reports
* Managing project budgets, cash flow and profitability
* Identifying, pricing and negotiating variations and compensation events
* Procuring and managing subcontract packages
* Administering NEC and JCT contracts
* Managing client accounts and negotiating final accounts
* Mentoring Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors
* Attending client meetings and visiting projects across the South of England
About the Requirements
* A minimum of 10 years’ commercial experience within civil engineering and construction
* Previous experience as a Commercial Manager or an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor ready to progress
* Strong experience working for a civil engineering, groundworks or RC frame contractor
* Experience managing projects from pre-construction through to final account
* Ability to undertake measurement, take-offs and pricing directly from drawings
* Strong knowledge of SMM7 and NRM measurement principles
* Experience administering NEC3, NEC4 and JCT contracts
* Strong CVR, forecasting, variation and compensation event experience
* Previous experience leading or supporting a commercial team
* Commercially astute, client-facing and confident in negotiation
* Willingness to work from the North Hertfordshire office and travel regularly to projects
* A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Civil Engineering would be preferred. However, candidates with strong practical experience will also be considered.
About the Benefits and Rewards
Salary: £85,000 - £110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
PAYE and LTD arrangements can be considered.
