Job Description - Commercial Property Head of Department
My client is seeking a Head of Department to lead their Commercial Property team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior solicitor with leadership experience and strong technical expertise in commercial property law to take on a strategic and client-facing role.
About the Role As Head of Department, you will manage and grow a busy commercial property practice, taking responsibility for team leadership, client development, and the delivery of high-quality legal services. This role involves both hands-on legal work and strategic oversight, working closely with partners and the wider management team to drive the department forward.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the Commercial Property department, including supervision and mentoring of junior lawyers and support staff.
Oversee a varied caseload including acquisitions and disposals, landlord and tenant matters, commercial leases, developments, and investment transactions.
Deliver expert, commercially focused legal advice to clients across sectors.
Maintain and grow strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
Play an active role in business development, networking, and identifying opportunities for growth.
Work with the senior management team to develop and implement departmental strategy.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and risk management requirements.
Monitor team performance, targets, and financial KPIs, including billing and profitability.
The Ideal Candidate:
Qualified Solicitor (8+ years PQE) with extensive experience in commercial property law.
Proven leadership experience within a legal team or department.
Strong commercial acumen and a proactive approach to business development.
Exceptional client care and communication skills.
Ability to manage a busy caseload while providing guidance and oversight to the team.
Desire to contribute to the strategic direction of the firm and the department.
