Job Description - Commercial Property Solicitor


3 Month Contract With A Local Authority







Job Purpose

To provide high-quality legal advice and representation on a broad range of commercial property and land-related matters on behalf of the Council, its partners, and clients. The postholder will manage a varied property law caseload, support client departments, and ensure legal services are delivered efficiently and in accordance with professional standards.













Key Responsibilities



  • Manage a varied caseload of commercial property, land, development, landlord and tenant, and related legal matters.

  • Provide legal advice to Council departments on property, land, and highways issues.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documentation.

  • Attend Council, Cabinet, and Committee meetings to provide legal advice where required.

  • Conduct legal research and provide clear, practical advice on property law matters.

  • Instruct Counsel where appropriate and manage external legal support.

  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with Lexcel quality standards.

  • Record time worked for client charging purposes.

  • Support the Team Leader – Property and Contracts with the delivery of legal services.

  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the role as required.









Requirements



  • Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with a current practising certificate.

  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience of commercial property law.

  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex legal documentation.

  • Strong legal research and advisory skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly.

  • Strong negotiation, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities, work to deadlines, and maintain high levels of accuracy.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Desirable:

    • Local authority legal experience.

    • Knowledge of local government legislation and developments.

    • Understanding of Lexcel standards.

    • Experience using Iken or other legal case management systems.

    • Knowledge of highways and planning law.






Additional Information



  • Location: Solihull Council offices (attendance as required for meetings and hearings).

  • Hours per Week: 25 hours.

  • Bi-Weekly Payments
