Are you an Editor with some solid commissioning under your belt or an established Commissioning Editor wanting more ownership of your own list, bringing broad subject non -fiction ideas to life? Read on if you’re looking for a creative and commercially focused editorial role.
Our partner: Our partner is an award -winning independent publisher with a strong reputation for producing high -quality, commercially successful non -fiction titles. Known largely for illustrated non -fiction, and for its agile and collaborative environment, the business empowers its editors to think creatively, spot emerging trends, and deliver engaging content across a wide range of categories, including lifestyle, entertainment, gift, popular culture, history, science, and more.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, pitch, and commission a range of non -fiction titles, managing projects from acquisition through to publication.
- Monitor market trends and identify new opportunities across key categories including narrative non -fiction, gift, and popular culture.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with literary agents, authors, and licensors.
- Collaborate with Sales and Publicity teams to position titles effectively and support commercial success.
- Manage project budgets and timelines, ensuring delivery is on track and to a high editorial standard.
Experience and skills that will deliver success in this role: We’re looking for a proactive and commercially aware Editor who enjoys working in a fast -paced, hands -on environment and is confident taking ideas from concept through to completion. You’ll bring a mix of editorial judgement, creativity, and strong project management skills. You will be committed to high quality editorial standards. You will thrive if you can conceive and deliver a broad range of product areas and are versatile enough to publish into a wide range of subjects where the commercial opportunity presents itself.
Essential:
- Experience within a trade publishing environment, ideally with exposure to non -fiction.
- Some commissioning experience or clear involvement in shaping and delivering book concepts (and deliver through to publication).
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects to deadline and budget.
- Confident communicator, able to present and champion ideas internally and externally.
- Awareness of market trends and the ability to respond quickly to new opportunities.
Desirable:
- Experience working on illustrated or full -colour titles.
- Proficiency in InDesign.
- Experience/network of agents and industry contacts.
- Interest or experience across areas such as gift, popular science, history, or lifestyle publishing.
