Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Assist deaf students during classroom activities and lessons.
  
  


• Interpret and present lesson content in an accessible manner.
  
  


• Utilize British Sign Language (BSL) and other communication methods to facilitate learning.
  
  


• Clarify and discuss curriculum content to enhance student comprehension.
  
  


• Foster the development of communication, language, social, and independent learning skills.
  
  


• Modify and prepare learning materials to suit individual student needs.
  
  


• Provide one-to-one and small-group support.
  
  


• Encourage inclusion within the student's peer group.
  
  


• Manage and maintain specialist audiological equipment effectively.
  
  


• Track and report on student progress.
  
  


• Participate in reviews, assessments, and educational planning.
  
  


• Collaborate with teaching staff and specialist sensory teams to ensure comprehensive support.
  
  


• Attend meetings and training sessions as needed.
  
  

Essential

• British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 or equivalent.
  
  


• GCSE Grade C/Level 4 (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  
  


• Recent experience supporting children in an educational setting.
  
  


• Experience working with deaf children and children with SEND.
  
  


• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  
  


• Ability to interpret lesson content and enhance student understanding.
  
  


• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  
  


• Capability to work effectively within a team.
  
  


• Proficient IT skills.
  
  

Desirable

• Experience in a Hearing Resource Base.
  
  


• Experience supporting secondary school-age students.
  
  


• Knowledge of deaf awareness and hearing impairment support strategies.
  
  


• Experience collaborating with Teachers of the Deaf.
