Community & Campaigns Officer

What you’ll be responsible for

The Community and Campaigns Officer plays a key role in delivering effective regional communications and campaigns that build trust, awareness and engagement with customers and communities. Working closely with Community and Campaigns Leads and wider communications colleagues, the role focuses on developing and delivering multi‑channel campaign activity, creating engaging content, and building strong relationships with community stakeholders, partners and internal teams. The post holder provides insight and advice on communications and reputational issues, supports community engagement activity, and helps deliver campaigns which are well‑planned, consistent and impactful.

Key Responsibilities

1. Work closely with the Community and Campaigns Leads to deliver regional communications and campaign plans through the region


2. Build and maintain strong relationships with community groups, influencers, operational managers, and capital partners, helping to maintain a significant public profile within the region, acting as a trusted representative of Welsh Water. Provide insight and advice to operational managers on reputational and communication issues.


3. Help and support with multi-channel community engagement activity (e.g. events, outreach, partnerships, local communications).


4. Implement, monitor and contribute to the reporting and evaluation of regional / community-based campaigns, identifying ways to build general awareness, foster positive customer engagement and trust.


5. Create engaging and relevant multi media content tailored for relevant demographic groups, maximising on opportunities to deliver key messages, building awareness, understanding, engagement or behaviour change, working closely with the rest of the brand and campaigns team to ensure consistency of message.


6. Contribute to the social media content calendar and work alongside the Digital and Social Media Manager 


7. Ensure the delivery of the campaign effectively tells our story in a way which builds awareness of the company and brand customer trust, education and understanding. 


8. Work closely with and build strong relationships with the rest of the communications team and other business areas to ensure campaigns reflect operational realities and customer needs, collaborating with PR teams, social media leads, internal communications, events and external agencies when required.


9. Provide communications support for on call rota and during gold and silver operational incidents, where required.

About you

The following are essential requirements for the recruitment of the role:

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate significant experience operating at a similar level within a specialist communications role, with a professional communications qualification or equivalent knowledge and expertise.

Experience

• Experience of working in a communications environment in a customer focused organisation/industry


• Understanding of communication campaign management and project management techniques


• Track record in engaging with stakeholders and building relationships and internal partnerships to form strategic communications plans


• Experience to advise stakeholders internal and external about communications issues


• Experience of digital communication and advertising/marketing techniques and an understanding how digital and social media channels can help communicate messages


• Experience of creative and accurate copywriting in different styles and communicating information to people in a simple and engaging way


• Experience of content creation and comfortable using a range of digital, design, film and social media tools and editing packages

Knowledge and skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills to establish rapport, credibility and relationships across Welsh Water


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and ability to process translation and copy checking for Welsh Language


• Ability to tailor messaging and activity to diverse communities, audiences  and local contexts


• Project management capability, presentation and communication skills.


• Confidence using data and insight to measure performance and demonstrate impact


• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities


• A clear understanding of budgets


• Ability to use a variety of systems to manage communications activity e.g. media/social media management systems, websites, campaign management tools, social media

Good to know

• This role is based at Clydach and follows a hybrid working model, with a minimum of two days per week in the office, alongside home and site-based working.


• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are required, as regular travel across West Wales forms part of the role.


• The successful candidate will participate in Welsh Water’s press office rota. A standby allowance is payable when on call.
