Complex Needs Teaching Assistant

Job Description - Complex Needs Teaching Assistant

Some pupils need more support than others to get through the school day.

We're recruiting Teaching Assistants to work in specialist education settings supporting children and young people with complex learning needs, communication difficulties and additional needs.

It's a practical, hands-on role. You'll spend your day working closely with pupils, helping them access learning, communicate their needs, develop independence and manage situations they may find difficult.

What does the role involve?

You'll work alongside teachers and experienced support staff, with responsibilities including:

Providing 1:1 and small-group support
Supporting learning, communication and interaction
Helping pupils develop independence and everyday skills
Responding calmly when pupils become overwhelmed or distressed
Following individual support and behaviour strategies
Building consistent, positive relationships with the pupils you support

Who could this suit?

Previous SEN experience is valuable, but we're open to different backgrounds.

You might already be a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant, or you could have experience in care, support work, healthcare, youth work or residential services and be interested in moving into education.

More than anything, we're looking for people who are dependable, patient and comfortable working in an environment where no two pupils – or days – are quite the same.

Role details

Pay: £14.25–£15.38 per hour
Hours: Monday–Friday, school hours
Location: Basildon and surrounding areas
Start: September
Term time only

We're particularly interested in applicants based around Basildon, Wickford, Billericay, Benfleet and the surrounding areas.

If this sounds like the sort of work you'd be good at, apply with your CV and we'll give you a call to talk through the opportunities available.

Successful applicants will be subject to the relevant safer recruitment checks, including references, right-to-work and enhanced DBS requirements.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
