Job Description - Consultant Psychiatrist

Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist
Location: Norwich, Norfolk
Salary: Competitive
Contract Type: Permanent - Full Time (37.5 hours per week)

Are you a forward-thinking and dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist looking for your next opportunity? A highly respected independent mental health service in the Norwich area is seeking a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to join its multidisciplinary clinical team.

This is an excellent opportunity to lead in a supportive environment and help shape high-quality, patient-focused mental healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert psychiatric assessment and treatment to a varied inpatient caseload

  • Take full clinical responsibility for your patients, including leading MDT ward rounds and overseeing care planning

  • Act as Responsible Clinician, completing Mental Health Act reports and attending tribunals as required

  • Proactively engage with referring NHS Trusts, commissioners, and community teams

  • Facilitate family involvement and communication using appropriate tools and technologies

  • Lead on the development of a therapeutic and recovery-focused ward environment

  • Contribute to clinical governance and service development initiatives

  • Participate in the consultant on-call rota

  • Maintain compliance with clinical guidelines, regulatory frameworks, and revalidation requirements

What We're Looking For:
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise

  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register (General Adult Psychiatry or related specialty)

  • Approved Clinician status under the Mental Health Act (or willingness to work towards this)

  • Excellent clinical leadership and interpersonal skills

  • Strong commitment to delivering high standards of care in line with best practice

  • Experience within inpatient psychiatric services is highly desirable
