The business has a strong reputation within the fire and health & safety sector, with over 30 years of experience supporting organisations across commercial, retail and residential environments.

The Role

You will carry out fire and general health & safety risk assessments, providing practical advice to clients to help them manage risk and meet their legal and regulatory obligations.

The role is a combination of site-based assessments and home-based report writing. Depending on the size and complexity of the buildings, you may spend a full day on site before completing the report from home or visit several buildings before allocating time to report writing.

The level of work and responsibility will be dependent on your experience and technical competence, making this opportunity suitable for consultants at different stages of their careers.

You will work across a variety of properties, including mid- and high-rise residential and commercial buildings, giving you exposure to a broad range of buildings, clients and challenges.

The work is predominantly across London and the South East, with some limited travel to sites in locations such as Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester. A willingness to travel would therefore be advantageous. Reasonable travel expenses, including trains, tubes and fuel where rail travel isn't practical, will be covered.

* Build effective working relationships with clients and other stakeholders.

* Work alongside other consultants and share technical knowledge and experience.

* Keep up to date with changes to UK fire safety and health & safety legislation, guidance and best practice.

* Manage your own workload and ensure assignments are completed within agreed timescales.

Experience

We are open to hearing from Fire, Health & Safety Consultants through to Senior Consultants, with the scope and complexity of assignments matched to your experience and competency.

You will ideally have:

* Experience in fire and health & safety risk assessment within the built environment.

* Experience working across residential and/or commercial buildings.

* Experience assessing mid- and high-rise buildings, ideally seven floors or more.

* Good knowledge of Approved Document B.

* Good knowledge of BS 9999 and BS 9997.

* Strong technical report-writing skills.

* A good understanding of current UK fire and health & safety legislation.

* Excellent communication skills and confidence when dealing directly with clients.

* A practical and professional approach to identifying and managing risk.

* The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider consultancy team.

Qualifications

Essential:

* NEBOSH General Certificate in Health & Safety or equivalent.

Desirable:

* A recognised fire qualification, with Level 4 particularly advantageous (for senior positions) given the nature of the residential and multi-storey work.

* Level 3 fire qualifications will also be considered where supported by relevant practical experience and competence.

* NFRAR Intermediate or above would be advantageous.

* Membership of a recognised fire safety organisation, such as AIFireE, MIFireE, GIFireE, MIFSM or MIFPO preferred.

* Registration with, or willingness to register with, a recognised fire risk assessor scheme such as IFSM, FRACS, IFPO or IFE.
