The Opportunity
As Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE), you will play a pivotal role in ensuring engineering activities are planned, managed and delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with the required technical, engineering and regulatory standards.
You will provide engineering leadership across the project, working closely with project management, construction teams, designers, subcontractors and other technical stakeholders.
Based in Portishead, this is a high-profile role within a major rail infrastructure environment where your engineering judgement and experience will have a direct influence on successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities Act as the Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) for assigned engineering works and project activities. Provide strong technical and engineering leadership throughout the delivery lifecycle. Ensure engineering activities are undertaken in accordance with approved designs, specifications, standards and relevant legislation. Review and manage engineering documentation, technical submissions and construction methodologies. Provide technical guidance, direction and support to project and site teams. Work closely with designers, subcontractors, suppliers and other engineering disciplines. Identify, assess and effectively manage engineering risks. Ensure appropriate engineering assurance and governance processes are followed. Support the development and implementation of safe systems of work. Monitor engineering quality and ensure works are delivered to the required standards. Provide technical input into project planning, programming and delivery. Attend engineering and project meetings, providing authoritative technical advice. Lead or support the resolution of engineering issues and technical challenges. Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, quality and environmental performance. Support project handover, completion and close-out activities. Ensure engineering decisions are properly documented, communicated and implemented. About You
We are looking for an experienced rail professional with the technical knowledge, leadership capability and commercial awareness to operate effectively as a CRE within a major infrastructure project.
You are likely to have:
Proven experience working as a CRE / Contractor’s Responsible Engineer within the rail industry. Strong knowledge of rail infrastructure engineering and project delivery. Experience working on complex rail, transport or major infrastructure projects. A strong understanding of engineering assurance, technical governance and risk management. Experience reviewing engineering designs, technical documentation and construction methodologies. The ability to provide confident technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams. Experience working collaboratively with project managers, designers, construction teams and subcontractors. Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills. The confidence to challenge where required and make sound engineering decisions. A strong understanding of health, safety, quality and compliance requirements within the rail environment. Relevant engineering qualifications and/or professional membership. Appropriate rail industry competencies and certifications relevant to the role.
