Contracts Manager – Architectural & Structural Steel - London
The Opportunity
An established and highly successful steelwork business is looking to appoint an experienced Contracts Manager to join its senior project delivery team.
With an annual turnover of approximately £26 million and a workforce of around 90 employees, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality architectural steelwork and structural steelwork projects across London and the South East.
Based from the company's substantial North London operation, which includes busy in-house fabrication workshops, this is a key role responsible for managing contracts from award through to successful completion.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Commercial, Estimating, Design, Fabrication and Site teams, ensuring projects are delivered to programme, specification and budget while maintaining strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities - Contracts Manager – Architectural & Structural Steel
* Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of a portfolio of architectural and structural steelwork contracts.
* Manage contracts from award through to completion, including programme, commercial performance, quality and client satisfaction.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, main contractors, consultants and other key stakeholders.
* Work closely with Estimating and Commercial teams to ensure a clear understanding of contractual and commercial requirements.
* Coordinate with Design and Engineering teams to ensure projects progress efficiently from design through to fabrication and installation.
* Liaise closely with the in-house fabrication workshops to ensure production, materials and delivery schedules align with project programmes.
* Manage site installation activities, subcontractors and specialist contractors.
* Monitor project programmes, identify potential delays and implement appropriate corrective action.
* Manage variations, additional works, valuations and commercial issues throughout the contract lifecycle.
* Review contract documentation, drawings, specifications and programmes.
* Attend and lead client and project meetings where appropriate.
* Monitor project costs and commercial performance, identifying risks and opportunities.
* Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with relevant quality, health & safety and environmental requirements.
* Oversee snagging, completion, handover and final account processes.
* Provide regular reporting on project progress, commercial performance and key risks to senior management.
* Contribute to the continued development of systems, processes and best practice across the contracts function.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Contracts Manager with a proven track record of successfully delivering steelwork projects within a professional contracting environment.
As a Contracts Manager you will ideally have:
* Significant experience managing architectural steelwork and/or structural steelwork contracts.
* A strong understanding of steel fabrication, engineering, finishing and installation processes.
* Experience managing multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
* Strong commercial awareness, including experience with variations, valuations, costs and final accounts.
* Excellent knowledge of project programmes and contract delivery.
* The ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and contractual documentation.
* Strong client management and negotiation skills.
* Excellent communication, organisation and leadership abilities.
* A structured and commercially focused approach to project management.
* The confidence to operate at both strategic and operational levels.
* Relevant construction qualifications such as SMSTS and CSCS would be advantageous.
