About the job:
Convenience is essential to our growth, over 40% of gross margin in our material markets now comes from convenience sales, with opportunity for further growth. The Convenience Commercial Development Manager role is part of the European Convenience Centre of Expertise and plays a key role in supporting a broad range of convenience business development activities vital for the M&C business to deliver its 3-to-5-year business plan. This is a commercial role and an exciting opportunity to be involved in crafting commercially viable, future-fit convenience partnerships and offers, as well as solving commercial problems. The role will work across our European markets and across the full convenience portfolio of offers including, but not limited to: Retail, Food Service, Omnichannel and Services. Key elements of the role include the prioritisation of new convenience opportunities, solving commercial problems, assessing the performance of existing offers and pilots, financial modelling, commercial analysis, investment case preparation and providing competitor intelligence. The primary partners for this role will be the M&C Europe market teams and finance, however, there will likely be involvement with other businesses and functions such as bp pulse, global marketing, procurement and strategy & sustainability. This will require an individual who is passionate about using data to drive and influence decision making, who can also build strong relationships across the business and navigate complex customer groups. The ability to deliver excellent strategic presentations to senior management will be key to success. The dynamic nature of the convenience business will require an individual who can work at pace with ambiguous information, with an ability to assist decision-makers at all levels.
Job Responsibilities
• Identify key value drivers for opportunities – crafting economic models and evaluating key metrics accurately for projects, including sensitivities
• Identify and scope project choices, delivering actionable insights to maximize commercial value and mitigate risks
• Lead the economic modelling of projects, working with finance and project managers to feed into partnership and offer strategies
• Play a key role in the development of presentations to senior management and the internal governance process for project approval
• Ensure strong customer engagement and support for project commercials and their subsequent recommendations
• Develop competitor intelligence
• Develop and maintain project schedules, showing key internal and external activities plus critical path activities and milestones, and provide project analysis and support
• Support interactions with third party partners as appropriate
Education
• Bachelor/ Master’s degree in relevant technical, finance or business field
Experience
• Experience in the energy and/or retail industry in a projects, commercial or consulting role(s)
• Experience working across multiple European markets desirable
• Strong commercial bias gained from involvement in successful development of material projects
• Experience with delivering commercial analysis with strong Excel capabilities
• Background in financial analysis, preparation and management of budgets and project cost estimates
• Experience preparing and delivering presentations up to (and including) C-suite/Group Leader Level, using data and insights to influence decision-makers
• Technical or commercial experience working in convenience, foodservice or retail desirable
• Working experience within project finance or partnerships desirable
• Knowledge of bp business processes desirable

• Highly commercial and analytical – passionate about numbers to drive decision making with experience working alongside finance
• Excellent organisational, planning, and written and oral communication skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with decision-makers and non-specialists
• Strong at building relationships and a proven ability to work across business and functional boundaries
• A self-starter who is hardworking and curious
• Dynamic, flexible, resilient, and able to adapt and remain motivated when faced with ambiguity
• Strong Powerpoint & Excel skills
• Describe the team, key partners, and any unique selling points of team culture
The European Convenience CoE, hosted in the UK, will:
• Maximise value from our strategic partnerships and offers
• Optimise supply chains and digital systems
• Lead on trading optimisation through innovation, category development and execution excellence
• Support markets with strategic programmes to enable value creation plan delivery
The Partnerships & Offer team will:
• Maximise value from our strategic partnerships
• Support markets with offer strategies and frameworks
• Partner with countries to develop new concepts
• Share innovation across markets
The team will work across the European markets and across business functions to identify and deliver value. The primary collaborators will be the M&C Europe market teams, however, there will likely be involvement with other businesses and functions such as bp pulse, global marketing, finance, procurement and strategy & sustainability.
