Job Description - Corrosion Repair Technician

Location: London
Contract: 6-Month Contract
Hours: Full-time, Onsite Monday to Friday 7am-5pm (Including shifts)

Rate: £34.14 per hour - £45.02 OT (via Umbrella)

To undertake corrective and preventative maintenance activities associated with train doors, interior flooring systems and other areas of rolling stock, including inspection, repair, modification, refitment, testing and fault finding on Hitachi rolling stock assets. The role provides specialist capability to maintain service availability, safety and asset integrity in line with vehicle maintenance instructions and specifications

Undertake scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repair and modification activities on train doors and interior flooring systems in accordance with vehicle maintenance instructions and engineering specifications.
Carry out lino and carpet removal, cutting, trimming, fitting, edge sealing and finishing to required standards.
Perform mechanical removal and refitment of flooring components, sub‑floor boards and associated fixtures.
Inspect sub‑floors for corrosion, carry out corrosion removal, and undertake wooden board modification and fitting as required.
Work with adhesives, sealants and anti‑slip materials in line with approved specifications and processes.
Undertake mechanical repair of threaded fasteners, including drilling, tapping and installation of heli‑coils, keenserts or equivalent repair systems.
Diagnose, remove, refit, set up and test external train doors, ensuring correct operation prior to return to service.
Fault‑find, adjust and maintain door runners, mechanisms, interlocks, proving systems, and pneumatic and/or electrical door actuators.
Complete commissioning and functional testing, undertaking basic rectification where defects are identified.
Accurately record work completed, faults identified and materials used via the maintenance management system.
Actively contribute to continuous improvement activities, highlighting emerging defects, repeat failures and opportunities for improved repair methods.
Maintain full compliance with all health, safety and environmental processes and procedures.
Attend testing locations, main line stations and outstations as required to support fleet maintenance activities.
Work shifts as required to meet operational demands and fleet availability targets.
Support the OMT Team Leader and OMT Production Manager in delivery of maintenance and modification plans. Essential

Licences / Competences

Manual Handling, COSHH, Working at Height
Safe use of powered plant and tools (air / 110v)
Experience of working shifts in a modern rolling stock maintenance depot environment
Strong safety awareness gained within an operational railway engineering environment
Experience using maintenance management systems (MMS)
Proven ability to follow vehicle work instructions and engineering documentation Technical Skills

Door fault finding and adjustment, including mechanical, pneumatic and/or electrical systems
Strong problem‑solving capability, particularly with train door systems
Flooring system repair, removal and installation, including lino, carpet and sub‑floor components
Mechanical repair techniques including drilling, tapping and threaded insert repairs Qualifications

Served apprenticeship in mechanical and/or electrical engineering
Engineering‑based NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) Behavioural

Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Calm, methodical and professional under pressure
Strong written and verbal communication skills
High standards of workmanship and attention to detail
Consistent compliance with internal and external rules and standards Desirable

Ability to read and interpret mechanical, pneumatic and electrical schematics and drawings
Intermediate IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Additional safety competencies (Depot Protection, First Aid, Fire Warden)
