Overview

A boutique London bank is seeking an experienced Credit Manager to lead the credit underwriting and analysis function across its UK lending portfolio. This role is ideal for a commercially minded credit professional who combines strong analytical ability with sound judgment to support prudent lending decisions and portfolio growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and underwrite new credit proposals for corporate, SME, and private banking clients in accordance with internal credit policies and regulatory standards.
• Conduct detailed financial analysis, including assessment of balance sheets, P&L statements, cash flow, and collateral positions.
• Prepare clear and concise credit papers for presentation to the Credit Committee, ensuring recommendations are well-substantiated and risk factors clearly identified.
• Monitor portfolio performance, identify early warning signs, and take proactive action to maintain credit quality.
• Liaise with relationship managers to balance commercial objectives with risk appetite.
• Develop and maintain internal credit policies, procedures, and scoring frameworks suitable for the bank’s size and market exposure.
• Support regulatory and audit reviews relating to credit activity and documentation.

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in credit underwriting or credit analysis within a banking or financial institution.
• Solid understanding of corporate lending, SME finance, and/or real estate-backed facilities.
• Strong analytical skills and fluency in financial statement interpretation.
• Excellent written communication and credit paper drafting ability.
• Familiarity with PRA expectations and relevant UK regulatory standards.
