Customs Operator

Right Now Group is partnering with a well-established, medium-sized freight forwarder based in Dover to recruit an experienced Customs Operator.

This position is ideal for someone with a solid background in European road freight who can confidently manage customs clearance for both import and export shipments. You'll be part of a small, fast-paced team and expected to bring strong working knowledge of customs processes and documentation.

While the ideal candidate will have experience across both operational and customs aspects, the client understands that finding someone with everything may be a challenge - they are open to candidates who are strong on customs and confident handling road freight.

• Manage full end-to-end coordination of road freight shipments (import and export).

• Prepare and submit accurate customs declarations for UK and EU clearances.

• Liaise with HMRC, port health, and other authorities to ensure clearance is smooth and compliant.

• Coordinate transport with European hauliers and suppliers.

• Handle key shipping documents including CMRs, packing lists, commercial invoices, and declarations.

• Provide timely quotations to clients and resolve any operational queries.

• Maintain strong communication with customers throughout the shipment cycle.

• Accurately update internal systems and ensure records are audit-ready.

• Experience in road freight forwarding, ideally 2+ years.

• Solid understanding of customs clearance procedures and documentation.

• Ability to work independently and prioritise in a busy environment.

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

• Detail-oriented, especially with customs and compliance documentation.

• Familiarity with customs platforms and freight management systems is desirable.

• £30,000 - £32,000 basic salary (depending on experience)
