Data Engineer - AI & Cloud Data Engineering Industry : Defence & Security

£55,000 - £75,000 (DOE) (+£15k Benefits Package)
As a practitioner in AI & Cloud Data Engineering, you are responsible for bridging the gap between our customers' needs and technical solutions. Your primary responsibilities are building large-scale data pipelines and infrastructure to ingest, transform, and organise raw data into accessible, trusted information assets. In your role, you will be responsible for deliverables and client stakeholder relationships and deliver solutions for our clients using agile methodologies. You will often work in multi-disciplinary teams across various industries, subject matters and locations.
Our Client's projects vary greatly, and your responsibility as a consultant will differ based on the focus of the client engagement and your skillset, but could include and may require you to:
* Utilize data integration tools and frameworks independently, adhering to standard pipeline authoring procedures.
* Implement optimised solutions for complex data integration problems. * Design high-quality software applications in collaboration with other developers.
* Demonstrate advanced problem-solving skills in data integration.
* Architect and implement massive scale and complexity solutions, delivering value across teams.
* Develop strategies for logical and physical data modelling, establishing standards.
* Hands-on experience with technologies related to data pipelines, data organisation, and database management.
* Expertise in integrating, consolidating, and cleansing data.
* Strong coding abilities and adherence to software engineering principles for scalable data systems.
* Understanding of data modelling, database design, and warehousing principles.
* Ingest, transform, and integrate data from diverse sources into well-structured information assets.
* Knowledge of distributed computing techniques, including parallel processing and batch workflow orchestration.
* Proficiency in ETL, data pipelines, and building automated workflows.
* Ability to optimise data systems for performance, scalability, reliability, and monitoring.
* Information security knowledge to ensure proper access controls, encryption, and anonymity for sensitive data.
* Understanding data governance frameworks, metadata management, data quality, and lineage tracking.
We are specifically looking for candidates with both technical and business focused skills, who can articulate the outcomes and value of their work, and who have working experience in some of the following:
End-to-end development experience with data pipelines, ETL processes, and workflow orchestration - using core concepts that apply across tech stacks.
Working with diverse data sources and types - batch, streaming, real-time, and unstructured.
Systems thinking and architectural design skills for building scalable, high-performance data solutions.
Data modelling, warehouse design, database optimisation knowledge - with samples of logical/physical models that reflect proficiency.
Deploying and managing distributed data systems.
Ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and tune these systems for reliability and performance.
Coding experience demonstrating modularity, reusability, and efficiency - across languages.
Understanding full development lifecycle, SDLC concepts, version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
Knowledge of data security, governance, metadata management, and master data principles.
Communication skills, ability to understand business requirements and translate to technical data solutions.
