Chevron seeks a highly collaborative, technically strong, and commercially minded Data Strategist to support our Trading organization. This role serves as a critical bridge between IT, Digital, and Commercial stakeholders, ensuring that the data, tools, and analytics foundations required for decision-making are reliable, well-structured, and strategically aligned.
The successful candidate will define and advance our data strategy, enhance data quality and accessibility, and enable analysts and traders to generate deeper insights through scalable, trusted analytics solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the data strategy for trading and commercial teams—ensuring critical datasets are governed, structured, and consistently understood across the value chain.
  • Act as the primary interface between Business and IT, translating commercial needs into clear technical requirements, and ensuring technology solutions meet the pace and precision of the trading environment.
  • Partner with Digital, IT, and Data Engineering teams to shape data architecture, ingestion patterns, and data governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Own and maintain core analytical assets (curated datasets, definitions, reusable code libraries, and foundational dashboards) while improving data quality, lineage and controls to build trust and reproducibility.
  • Enable the adoption of AI and advanced analytics tools, guide best practices for data access and analytics workflows, and champion process improvements that reduce manual effort, eliminate data pain points and accelerate insight delivery.
  • Contribute to a culture of data-driven decision-making by providing clear communication, structured thinking, and strong partnership behaviors across trading, operations, and IT.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business, Economics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in data strategy, analytics, data engineering, or commercial analytics roles—preferably in energy, trading, or asset-intensive industries.
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis and transformation tools, such as SQL, Python, Databricks, Power BI, or similar.
  • Experience working with data pipelines and platforms, data modelling concepts, and modern analytics environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate commercial needs into data and technical requirements, and to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to drive structure in ambiguous situations and influence stakeholders across functions.
  • Proven ability to build trust, collaborate in fast-paced environments, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Digital-first mindset with interest in automation, data governance, and emerging AI capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting trading, commercial, or supply & value chain organizations.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Exposure to enterprise data governance or data product management concepts.
  • Understanding of data quality frameworks, lineage, metadata, and reproducibility standards.

  • Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
