Job Description - Day Opportunities Development and Support Manager

Camphill Milton Keynes Communities is a charity that provides unique person-centred support, based on a modern view of the Camphill movement, for adults with learning disabilities and autistic spectrum conditions, as well as for a number of people living in the Milton Keynes area who have a learning disability.

About the Role:

To support the Day Opportunities Manager in the daily operations and strategic development of the Day Opportunities programme at Camphill MK. This role will provide leadership and workshop coverage in the absence of Managers and Coordinators, contributing to the growth and innovation of inclusive services for adults with learning disabilities and autism. (Note: In addition to these functions, employees are required to carry out such duties as may reasonably be required.)

Key Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of the Day Opportunities Development & Support Manager include:

  • Assist the Day Opportunities Manager with operational oversight and strategic planning.
  • Work alongside the Workshop Coordinators to support skills development, recording, and outcomes for the workshop participants.
  • Develop and co-create training pathways for participants to enhance employability skills and evidence-based training.
  • Provide administrative and IT support, including note-taking, compliance, data security, risk assessments, and liaison with HR and social care teams.
  • Follow up and communicate outcomes and expectations from meetings to attendees.
  • Support the development and provision of inclusive and meaningful workshop activities for individuals with complex needs.
  • Collaborate with local businesses and like-minded providers to expand workshop opportunities.
  • Identify and support the creation of new income streams and social impact initiatives.
  • Support the development and marketing of workshop products and brands for public sale, ensuring compliance with trading standards and food safety legislation.
  • Assist with fundraising and promotional activities, including attendance at weekend/out-of-hours events.
  • Provide ‘hands-on’ cover across workshops and during events.
  • Help plan and support workshop events and outings.
  • Attend community and key stakeholder meetings as required.
  • Staff training and professional development:
  • Participate in professional supervision.
  • Attend staff meetings when required.
  • Participate in ongoing community events, in-house and external professional and personal development activities.

General:

  • Build a professional working relationship with Participants, colleagues, and relevant professionals.
  • Represent CMKC positively and professionally.
  • Adhere to confidentiality procedures.
  • Comply with CMKC and the Code of Conduct for Adults in Social Care in England and Wales.
  • Comply with CMKC policies and procedures.
  • To work in accordance with CMKC mission and vision statements of values.

Person Specification

  • Experience working in social care, education, or community development settings.
  • Strong administrative and IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management systems.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Experience in planning and delivering inclusive activities and training.
  • Experience in social enterprise.
  • Understanding safeguarding, compliance, and risk management.
  • Commitment to the values of inclusion, co-production, and person-centred support.
  • Project management or leadership experience.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience supporting individuals with autism or complex needs.
  • Experience in marketing, product development,
  • Experience supporting people to gain employment or employability skills.
  • Experience designing educational materials and activities.
  • Awareness of accessible communication tools suitable for people with a learning disability.
  • Knowledge of supported employment or vocational training pathways.
  • Familiarity with Camphill or similar intentional communities
