About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Deputy Customs Manager to lead and support their customs operation in Dover. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly knowledgeable customs professional with extensive brokerage experience who is looking to take ownership of a busy customs function while helping to drive business growth.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in UK customs procedures, be confident handling all types of customs declarations, and possess the leadership skills to support and develop a customs team. Alongside operational responsibilities, you will play an important role in maintaining strong client relationships and identifying opportunities to grow the business.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, process and oversee import, export and transit customs declarations. Manage all types of customs entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with UK customs regulations. Ensure all customs activities are completed in line with HMRC legislation and company procedures. Support, mentor and manage the customs team, providing guidance and maintaining high performance standards. Monitor workloads and ensure customs entries are processed efficiently and accurately. Manage customs invoicing and associated administrative processes. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, providing an excellent level of service. Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and generate new business. Work closely with internal departments to ensure the smooth movement of shipments. Resolve customs-related queries quickly and professionally.
Skills & Experience
Minimum 10 years' experience within the customs brokerage industry. Extensive knowledge of UK customs legislation, procedures and compliance requirements. Strong experience preparing and processing import, export and transit customs declarations. Ability to confidently complete customs declarations of all types. Previous experience supporting or managing a customs team. Strong working knowledge of CargoWise. Excellent typing speed with the ability to process customs entries accurately and efficiently. Experience managing customs invoicing and related administrative tasks. Excellent communication and organisational skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
