Job Description - Deputy General Manager - Immersive Theatre

Join the Layered Reality team as Deputy General Manager at the Gunpowder Plot (www.gunpowderimmersive.com), where innovation meets entertainment. Layered Reality is a pioneer in immersive entertainment, blending captivating storytelling, cutting-edge technology, and exceptional customer service. Our unique approach combines live theatre, digital technology (virtual reality, projection mapping, and holograms), and physical sensations (sight, sound, smell, touch, and movement) to craft unforgettable immersive experiences.

Position Summary
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Deputy General Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless delivery of our cutting-edge immersive experience. You will immerse yourself in all aspects of the business, from supporting projects to taking ownership of day-to-day operations. Your responsibilities will span across various departments, ensuring robust systems and processes are in place to guarantee guest satisfaction, safety, and financial success. This role requires enthusiasm, passion, and effective leadership to achieve an outstanding experience for our guests.
*This role will be on a fast-track programme to manage their own permanent location within 9-12 months*

Scope & Responsibilities

Recruitment & HR
Oversee the recruitment process in collaboration with senior management.
Manage contracts for all team members, including employees, casual workers, and freelancers.
Develop and implement the training strategy for the team.
Conduct inductions for new team members.
Maintain the company’s internal HR system.
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Complete performance reviews and conduct & capability meetings in line with company policy.
Financial
Collaborate with the finance department on all financial and budgetary matters.
Track budgets and provide regular monthly reporting.
Support the GM with monthly payroll.
Oversee financial reconciliation of the experience.
Prepare regular sales reports for senior management.

Live Operations
Manage the ticketing partnership.
Liaise with licensees and subcontractors.
Supervise department managers and team members.
Ensure smooth running of all departments.
Maintain site presentation and cleanliness.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Manage guest escalations and show reports.
Undertake any other duties as required.

Background & Experience
A diplomatic and motivated self-starter with high levels of diplomacy and professionalism with a positive and solution-based approach. You will have management experience working within theatre, events, visitor attractions and entertainment industries. Previous experience managing immersive theatre experiences is preferable.

Desired Attributes
A minimum of 3 years relevant management experience.
A successful track record of managing large scale events.
Knowledge of recruitment, onboarding, and training.
Familiarity with HR systems and processes.
Knowledge of the theatre & events industry.
Understanding of health and safety regulations.
Experience with food & beverage operations.
Ability to work independently and adapt to changing circumstances.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
Flexible schedule (evening & weekend work required).
