Job Description - Design Delivery Manager

Job Summary:
The Design Delivery Manager manage on behalf of the Lead Design Manager and Senior Design Manager all aspects of the design, including coordination, submission, compliance, programming and management of design, engineering and assurance for the design packages. The Design Delivery Manager liaises with the Consultant Design Manager and manages, coordinates, integrates and certifies on behalf of the Lead Design Manager that the works for the new Curzon station works have been constructed in accordance with the design for the design packages assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain an uncompromising commitment to safety, and collaborate with Principal Designer HS2 Ltd.
Protection of Design Vision and Employer's Objectives
Ensure culture and behaviours meet HS2 Construction Partner Objectives in collaboration with all parties, as described in WI830 (Collaboration).
Ensure exemplary quality and sustainability standards.
Participate in audits and surveillance of project design process.
Support and encourage the implementation of solutions to reduce the carbon footprint.
Scope, Deliverables and Programme:
Manage design delivery including technical assurance, ensuring scope is packaged to support construction programme, and deliverables are issued in accordance with the programme.
Manage scope definition process to ensure scope is clearly defined as per agreed list of content, agreed by all parties (Designer, CP and HS2), and packaged to support construction programme.
Manage GETs at package level.
Collaboration and Coordination:
Develop the design at package level to achieve a safe, buildable, operational and maintainable asset. In particular, engage the Construction Team and call on Early Contractor Involvement as applicable.
Actively create an environment of collaboration and engagement with SDSC and HS2, in particular with the DMs, PMs and the PEs allocated to each design packages.
Manage Communications with SDSC, HS2 and 3rd Parties
Develop an approach to design driven by value and collaborative working with the Design team, Construction team and the supply chain.
Liaise and coordinate with other Design Managers, Responsible Engineers and Assurance Team members for design package related items.
Coordinate engagement with HS2 and third parties and manage ICDs & AIDDs.
Review and Assurance:
Coordinate the design package reviews.
Review Assurance deliverables at package level and deliver to Senior Design Manager / Lead Design Manager / Head of Design / Technical Assurance Manager for sign off.
Ensure technical documents are reviewed and accepted by appropriate colleagues.
For all other deliverables, you are the final approver of submissions to the client and/or third parties.
Oversee Subcontractor design review is undertaken by AWJV to confirm intent for the design packages.
Risks, Assumptions, Escalation Process & Change Management:
Ensure that design issues identified at package level are escalated and resolved efficiently.
Coordinate assumption and decision registers, design action registers and risk registers for the design package.
Ensure that the Design Change Control process is implemented at package level and initiate change process.

Qualifications, Certifications & Experience:
Experience within a similar role within an appropriately sized engineering organisation.
Educated to degree or higher level or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically Engineering discipline (or related). A lower educational level, typically HNC or HND, may be acceptable where a very significant level of experience in a senior technical engineering role can be demonstrated.
Membership of an appropriate Professional body, typically Chartered member of Institute of Civil Engineering or an international equivalent professional status.
